I feel like we really dodged a bullet here. My partner and I stopped in on a Friday morning around 8am for breakfast. We wanted to support a local business instead of visiting one of the many chain restaurants. We noticed the place was basically deserted with only 2 vehicles in the parking lot which would normally mean quick service at most places. The first few tables in the place had "Table Closed" signs on them which I'd never seen before. We seated ourselves along the left wall and waited for someone to notice and give us some menus and perhaps take a drink order. During our lengthy wait for service, we took the opportunity to look around us. There were the 2 patrons at the bar, sitting in silence. There was a cook in the kitchen hunched over the griddle. The ketchup on the table had never seen the inside of a refrigerator and judging by it's unusually dark color had been there for quite some time. The atmosphere was dim, bleak, and beyond hope. We had places to be and things to do so decided not to waste any more time there after being completely ignored for 5+ minutes. We eventually found another place for breakfast and went along our days activities.
It was only much later that we read through the other reviews in detail since our experience did not live up to the 4.2 stars given on Google Maps. I'm glad we did not have our day ruined by what would likely have been a complete disaster of a meal and an unbelievable waste of time had we stuck around for any...
Read moreI've been to The Frying Pan a few times for breakfast. It's an easy joint for us to hit up for when we are in the area, but I have felt each time that most people could make much better quality food at home for a fraction of the price. They do have crispy scrapple, so that's a plus. The service is also friendly and fast. Still my spinach, mushroom, tomato omelet I had last time had issues. The spinach tasted and looked canned or long-frozen (certainly wasn't fresh) and really ruined something that could have been great. The mushrooms and tomatoes were weak on flavor as well (a 1 minute saute of the mushrooms would bring out significantly more flavor). Home fries are crispy, but seem heavy on the oil. Corned beef hash is canned and kind of gross. I've also had the oatmeal which was the ultra-instant kind lacking in flavor or texture. The bacon is very crispy and tasty so I am glad they got that right. Wish they had more pride in the food they send out... It would be so easy for them to make spectacular omelets! Perhaps it's the lack of local breakfast competition that feeds their complacency.
I really love mom and pop type places, but I think I was just looking for better quality fare. Another note, the saggy drop ceiling is stained and offputting. Kind of takes away from the ambiance which I think would be great otherwise (knotty...
Read moreFirst time tried this place just from having 4 stars on Google. I had family visiting from out of state and wanted to have a nice breakfast with them, but it was a disaster. There were only 2 people working the cook (owner) and 1 waiter. It was not busy there at all. I got an omelette and asked to have the onions, peppers and mushrooms to be sautéed with cheese melted on the top of the omelette. Not too much to ask for. The waiter literally told me no, and the cook won’t do that and will have a fit about it. I was absolutely stunned to hear that from a waiter. I was very disappointed. Who likes to have raw onions in their omelette? Maybe some people do but it’s not for me. The food took over 30 minutes to cook and came out cold. I will definitely not be back that’s for sure and I really doubt this place is going to up and running for long. I know things can get hectic and everybody have bad days but if your restaurant has 5 stars maybe you should have more workers. A couple came in and sat down for brunch, and the waiter told them it will be a 30 minute wait before he can take his order because there was 3 tables of orders the cook was working on. I just can’t believe that happened. More workers are needed and customer service is needed to be taught.
I won’t be back for sure and definitely do not recommend this...
