My roommate and I have been going to Hoffman’s for years. The food is exceptional, and the service is always great. We just recently went (February 11th), and I noticed that the red wine demi glace, for the filet, was no longer on the menu (it still shows up as an option, on their website’s menu, though). I asked our server, Kayla, if it was still an option, and she said no. Don’t get me wrong; the filet was still amazing, but that demi glace is VERY specifically the reason I visit/prefer Hoffman’s over other steakhouses, as it’s beyond exceptional, and makes it the best filet I’ve ever had. We’ll still go back, but not as often, if that option won’t be returning. All of that being said, our most recent experience/food was still great. We got the steamed shrimp appetizer, which was some of the best steamed shrimp I’ve ever had. For entrees, I got the filet, and my roommate got the king cut prime rib. All delicious. The fries and mashed potatoes are especially good. Kayla was/is new, but didn’t disappoint at all, and we’d be happy to have her as a server again. Very attentive and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for the best steak around! Another recommendation I have would be to always ask customers if they want the bread, because it’s delicious, and I imagine new customers are probably confused when they see other people with bread, that they weren’t offered/didn’t know about, on their tables. Also, as a patron, I’d prefer being offered the bread than having to ask for it. This wasn’t Kayla’s fault, either, because we’ve had several other servers never mention it until we asked for it. Lastly, my roommate loves the food at Hoffman’s, but says he would enjoy going to the restaurant a lot more if the atmosphere was better. Maybe some dividers/booths, more artwork/decorations, etc. Regardless of all of this, I...
Read moreI normally don’t write reviews and it takes a lot of to bother me when it comes to eating out. Because of my wife’s job we’re in a lot of restaurants all over the Md, Va, Dc area. Everything from dive bars to Michelin rated.
We had heard so many good things about Hoffman’s and decided to try it out this weekend. Unfortunately we didn’t get to try any of the food because we weren’t even acknowledged waiting at the hostess station. Not a hello, or a I will be right with you or even eye contact!
Several employees came to the hostess station and grabbed menus and checked off tables and even seated other parties and not once did anyone speak to us. And by the way I’m 6’ 9” so I’m impossible to miss and standing directly in front of the hostess stand.
After about 10 minutes of standing there trying to get anyone’s attention the hostess who had already walked back and forth about 6 times keeping her head down intentionally each time, finally looked up at me and asked if I had been helped. I told her no, I’ve just been standing here being ignored.
Everyone that was there knew each other and the staff was talking to everyone and calling them all by name. So I guess if you not “one of them” they don’t talk to you?
We left and went to Nicks Airport Inn instead and had an...
Read moreThe food is spectacular, don't get me wrong, there is no place in the area that will come close to the crab cakes and fare offered by this restaurant. I do have a rather major complaint about the place though that will seriously hinder my decision to return, it's just not friendly. The prices for the quality of food are fair, but they do tend to scale towards the high end, the food was actually rather enjoyable, but the feeling you get from walking in there, as if its an inconvenience to whatever their intended dining crowd is truly made it hell on earth to sit through the meal. The, what I assume was, owner was walking around introducing himself to tables, being congenial, passed over our table several times. I didn't think much of it at first but the air of the very place is rather that of a country club. It oozes this vibe that if you aren't in the know they truly don't need your business. In short, if they offer take out, by all means indulge, However, if not it's truly not worth the trip. This is a pity, since I rather enjoyed the actual meal.
In summary, the prices are on the higher end of the spectrum, but are fair for the quality. If it was more open and friendly I would...
