I like Home Run Donuts a lot, and I have spent about 300.00 there in the past two months. I buy them for work and home and for friends. However today I had an experience that will cause me not to come back. For the past few times I’ve visited I have waited in line for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, sometimes more. I don’t complain because I like supporting local businesses. But today I arrived at 8:15am and there was no line, so I decided to buy from a family in our community. One other person was there. I ordered a half dozen of donuts, 2 special donuts, and two dozen of blueberry holes. When I ordered the blueberry holes the girl at the window (who I will say was very sweet and polite) turned and asked if they had enough blueberry holes. There was a girl behind her who with an attitude said “NO!” and made an aggravated face. The girl waiting on me asked about another bin and the girl with the attitude rolled her eyes and went to check. She then came back and said “there’s some there. Only enough for two dozen.” The girl waiting on me had to almost coax this girl to get my order and she responded with “well THATS IT THEN. That’s all of them!” With attitude. I stood at the window and could hear this. I felt as a customer this was wrong, for a few reasons. 1. It was 8am. When the business opens there should be enough donut holes ready for purchase. 2. They were not busy. At all. I could understand if there was a huge line in front of me but there was one person. 3. When a customer orders something and an employee behind the counter has attitude and acts like they don’t want to sell the product it makes the customer feel undervalued. If not for the politeness of the girl waiting on me I would have said to forget the entire order because her attitude put me off that greatly. The two owners stood there and watched the girl give attitude and said nothing. Only asking if the other bin was glazed. I spent 22.00 there, which may not seem like a lot but I can get two dozen of Krispy Kreme donuts for that price. I like to support local businesses but unfortunately I will probably not return because I felt as a customer my order was a burden to this...
Read moreKrumpe's may be the home-town favorite, but there's a new kid in town! As far as I know, everything is done in this tiny trailer by the side of the road west of Hagerstown. There was a line of four cars waiting at the drive-up when we visited (drive-up only service right now). Because of the poor use of space in the parking lot for a line of cars, the line spilled out onto the intersecting road. Before long, there were four more cars behind us.
These donuts are not for the faint of heart. They're on the expensive side, and they're HUGE. These are donuts made with tender loving care, rich ingredients and a generous heart. We got a dozen and a-half and it took four boxes and two plastic containers. I think the 18 donuts weighed about 6 pounds but I didn't actually weigh them.
They all look absurdly good but I only ate the raspberry cheesecake (for lunch, with a cup of coffee - thank you). It was unbelievable. It was ungodly. It was GREAT.
I'm taking four of them with me to visit the daughter tomorrow and my sister is trying to give most of the rest away. These are seriously good donuts, but don't make it a habit. Lots and lots of calories here. And taste. And goodness. And...
Read moreThe donuts are AMAZING!! However, this was my first time. I didn't realize that there was a long wait time. After a 10 to 15 minute wait, I kindly asked how much longer it would be. The lady behind the counter, not sure if she was the owner( reddish, purple long straight hair with glasses) rudely said...OH IT'S ONLY BEEN 10 MINUTES, YOU'RE LUCKY IT'S NORMALLY 45 MINUTES. Obviously, someone needs to work on her people skills. Other than that the donuts are the best in the area and they are worth the wait.
My reply,
Clearly your memory isn't as sharp as you think. I ordered 6 glaze and 6 chocolate dipped. Both on your menu, as it stated $1.50 extra for chocolate dipped. Which I was glad to pay. Never did your employee inform me that it was a special order. We will be back because the donuts are truly delicious. Thank you, for your offer for free donuts however, it's not necessary we are happy to pay and wait. Maybe a minimum wait time posted would help inform first time customers....
