Mr Tony Piere, owner, and managers:
My family was at Mike’s Restaurant & Crab House at 3030 Riva Road on Saturday, August 16, 2025 approximately 430pm waiting to be seated for dinner. When our text message came that our table was ready at 453pm, we were refused service by your restaurant.
I had my small service dog with me, wearing his service dog vest, and in a carrier to avoid being stepped on by patrons and staff at your bustling restaurant. Two staff (one tall Caucasian-appearing female with tan skin wearing black top and using eyeglasses, and one Hispanic-appearing male with pepper grey hair wearing a burgundy top) told me that we would not be seated because they didn’t allow dogs. I clearly and respectfully informed them that my dog is a trained service dog for me, a person with a disability.
The female staff stated a service dog needs to be wearing a vest, not looking around, and special-trained. I educated her that my dog is specifically trained to alert me for my disability needs, and it is not required to have a vest per the federal law Americans for Disabilities Act (ADAAA). The male staff showed me your restaurant’s illustrated photo of a dog with rigid handle stating my dog needed to be a larger dog and required that specific handle. I educated him that is just ONE example of a service dog. Further, I educated him that not all service dogs are bigger shepherds/labradors/retrievers and that not all disabled handlers require it; although it is commonly used for visually impaired persons.
It was upsetting to be refused service at your restaurant that communicates service dogs allowed. I told those two staff that they were not following a federal ADAAA law for persons with disabilities and their service animals. Please use this as an opportunity to RE-educate all of your restaurant’s leadership staff. Understanding the rights of people with disabilities and their service animals not only prevents legal issues, but also builds goodwill for patrons.
We have never been turned away at your restaurant until this past weekend. I hope your restaurant corrects this immediately. I reported this incident to the Civil Rights Division US...
Read moreI patronize this establishment frequently. I've never, ever had a problem with this restaurant until today. My food was delicious as always, no complaints in that area, however. My server was very slow at waiting our table. I watched as other tables waiters, and waitress were serving excellent customer service. My waitress was very slow at serving us. We arrived at 12pm and didn't get drinks until 12:30 finally she brings hubby food, and by the time he's done eating. My crabs arrive. I've now downed one soda, and look up. Waitress having personal conversation with another customer. Mean while I haven't seen her in at least 15 to 20 min. Another server comes by. I asked him if he could get me 2 diets cokes. Still haven't seen my waitress. I go to the front podium to speak with someone whom identified herself as a manager. She's very rude, and very unprofessional! I explain the situation to her. She said ok thank you. So as I proceed to exit. I tell her that I'm a regular customer and from the service I received today. I didn't think I would come back. She responded ok that's fine (smh) I didn't care for her attitude at all. So I called back once I left. I asked for manager. The guy asked me for what did I need with a manager. I responded regarding my service today. After about a 10 minute hold. A familiar voice answers the phone. I asked if I could have her name. She responded Roberta. Im not even sure if that was her real name. I asked if she was the young lady I had spoke with earlier. She said yeah. I asked If there was someone over top of her. Again she responded yeah. I asked for his name. She responded Tony Pierre. I asked when would he be returning ? She stated Tuesday. If that's really his name. I'm pretty sure he wouldnt want any of his customers to be treated the way I was today. I was there 2 days ago, and spent almost $400 and today an additional $117 I really love this place, but unless this situation is addressed. I will no longer patronize them. I miss Shawn being there. He made sure all of his customers were satisfied. Signing off. Very...
Read moreI've been going to Mike's for years and always enjoyed the entire experience. Today was AWFUL! Apparently they no longer provide the basic condiments of ketchup and Mayonnaise for those who wish to make a dipping sauce for their crabs. Fine. I don't eat crabs, I always order other items while my friend enjoys the crabs. After we ordered and had eaten our ceasar salads which we always look forward to, my food arrived. At that time my friend asked for ketchup and Mayonnaise. The server informed us that they no longer provide those condiments and we were welcome to walk next door to purchase some. My friend canceled her order for crabs and asked for a NY Strip instead. The server said they were out of NY Strips at which time we decided to leave. We had driven an hour and were not about to spend crab money anymore. I asked for the manager. When she (CHRISTINE) came over I explained that I'd pay for for the salads but nothing else as my friend wouldn't be eating. She then refused to take off my drink which I hadn't drank yet. When I said to her you all should let folk know that condiments are not available before they order she said we do. I said playfully especially black people she said we do. I said no one told us and we're clearly black. She responded with we don't want your kind here anyway and don't come back. I couldn't believe how she spoke to us. When the black guy came over (DARRYL) to i guess diffuse the situation, he had to hold her back! I thought she was gonna hit me. I'm not sure if he was a manager or security but he agreed that her comments were completely out of line. She continued to rant and cause a scene. We left and went to Fat boys where I saw a friend who I shared our experience at Mike's with. To my my surprise she said the same thing happened to her. She was also told she was not welcome and to not come back. DO NOT...
