I've been to Franklin BBQ in Austin. I've been to Lockhart, Texas and tried the BBQ places there like Blacks and Smittys. I've also tried franchise type BBQ places like Famous Daves, Rudy's, Dickey's and Mission BBQ. I've gone to lesser known but quite good local places around the country, but this is by far the most disappointing place ever. With 4.5 stars I was expecting a lot more. Very disappointed with the food there. The brisket was gray colored and rubbery with absolutely no flavor. The pulled pork was very bland and just tasted old like it had been sitting for a while. You would think with a lot of people visiting this place on a Friday for dinner that food would be fresh as more would have to be cooked to accommodate the customers, but this just wasn't so. There's not much you have to do to pork to make it taste good so it takes quite a bit of effort to really make pulled pork taste bland and unappealing. This place is just not good at all. You're better off getting out the grill, buying your own brisket and grilling it yourself for a few hours. Might be a little time consuming and takes some effort but why go out to spend money when you can have a better meal at home. Just not...
Read moreI took my son for lunch because he said the food was really good, which it was. I had a mushroom and swiss burger, while my son had shrimp and wings. The chips weren't my style, but there was plenty of barbecue sauce to soften them a bit, so it worked out. Unfortunately, though, it took almost thirty minutes after we ordered our tea for our server to take our food order. It wasn't that she was busy, either, because she was standing 3 ft away doing nothing for most of that time. I even commented to my son out loud, but our server was too lost in space to notice or care. He said that when he has visited with his friend's family, the service is always really quick. We were also seated at an inside table with ants. The server became slightly more attentive once she finally took our order, but I was sorely disappointed. This was one of those few places I've encountered in life where I truly felt like a stranger in a strange land, where people look at you as if you just stepped off a spaceship. I haven't had that feeling in a long time, but that doesn't make the feeling any easier to take. I'd go back for the food, but I won't go back due to the...
Read moreWe always enjoy stopping in and having a bite to eat, or rather large bites to eat. This was our first time since the move to the new location, and there was no disappointment. They have great daily deals and beer options on tap. I usually order a burger, as that's my favorite with pulled pork atop. However, this time I went with the chili spud. I was so happy with this choice, it was amazing, it was huge, I was only able to eat half.. the chili has a great flavor and the potato was cooked perfectly. My daughter insisted on the hotdog, and she was so amazed by its size,, she gobbled up what her 4yr old self could manage and she enjoyed the fresh chips. My hubby ordered the Cuban, which he was very satisfied with. Service is always friendly and attentive. It's spacious and clean. For the portions and quality of food, the prices are reasonable. Especially if you go on the days with specials. Went on a Wednesday night for the prime rib special, it is delicious, has great flavor. The spuds are so huge, with all the right toppings, the pulled pork with the cheese and coleslaw.....
