It took us about less 2 hours with a little traffic to arrive. There was plenty of parking. I had to immediately relieve myself and did find outdoor restrooms available. Sadly I did not check the utilities prior, and had to quickly go, but to find out the water was not turned on. There was no way to flush or wash my hands but thank God I keep wipes and hand sanitizer on me. I felt embarrassed to leave the bathroom in it's condition. I did advise a staff member who happened to be walking by. She apologized, but I was still embarrassed.
We walked up the pier/dock to the boat. We were unsure which boat was ours. Moments later, a staff member advised us to please be patient while they were unloading and reloading another boat due to technical difficulties. Some guests were happy with the delay, since they were running late.
We were technically to board at 12pm, I think we finally able to board about after 12:30 or so. We gave our names and we advised that we were on the bottom deck, 2nd table to the right. The reservation was for us to be on the top deck, no accommodation given. Once on board and inside we began to search the table but we never found our name on either of the tables or neither side. We even checked on the upper deck, but it was fully booked for a private party. This is where I was beginning to loose my patience and cool.
We then walked back outside to advise we could not find the said table in question and no one seem to have a clue on what was happening. So we then went back inside since the check in person was busy checking everyone else in. We sat down at a table in the back not even set up. Everyone else was being catered to, had cole slaw awaiting and drinks being served. Several staff members did seem concerned, but it still took several minutes before anyone dealt with us and figured out where we were to sit.
The boat is in dire need of some upgrades. Our table was wobbly and you see the wall paper was coming undone, grease stains along the walls, as well as food stains right near me. Even the drapes could use some TLC. Hubby showed me the email or messages from the staff when rescheduling and was offered a few comp drinks, but we were unable to deal with it, so no birthday drink for me. There is only bar for the entire boat, so the entire party drop upstairs came down for drinks and were standing everywhere and even putting there back ends near our small table. Hubby ended up moving closer to the window side of the table to avoid being bumped by the lively party.
Once we started to take sail, the staff began to serve us appetizers. Each guest was served a bowl of cole slaw, then one ear of corn per guest!! đĄ Thank God hubby doesn't eat corn on the cob. And they were serves at warm temperatures, but the crab seasoning was delicious on top of the corn. Then we were served crab soup and fried chicken and fried clams. The chicken was salty and hard to eat, but hubby ate around the skin. We didn't care for the clams since they were overcooked and not edible to enjoy.
The staff came around and cleared the each table to make way for the crabs. We wished there were other food options for people who may not eat crabs. But a staff did give hubby another bowl of soup. The male crabs were very heavy and seasoned well. For dessert, we had cheesecake, which was good and we were able to get another slice.
I appreciate the staff for giving me some sliced lemons so that I can wash my hands. Warning, the restrooms are very small and please be careful when you are at the sink, since the door is directly near the sink and you can be easily hit by the door if no one is aware. I kept the door ajar to avoid being hit.
The boat did stop a few times to board a few late comers and to bring additional food items for the party guests.
Overall, we might do it again just for the crabs. We did cruise around for about 3 hrs and saw some nice houses...
Read moreHeard about this restaurant from a local. It's about 25 miles from where I live, but on a beautiful, sunny day, it was a very nice drive to get there. It is located in a very rural and quiet environment (corn field across the street, river on the side), but not hard to find. Roads leading to it have signage for the restaurant and I really didn't notice anything else that was as distinct as the restaurant in Secretary, Md, so anyone could direct you if you were to ask. The restaurant is big, with lots of parking in a mostly gravel filled parking lot. There is upper, middle & lower seating inside, along with upstairs dining and also outside dining along the pier. The atmosphere/decor is what you'd expect in this type of waterside restaurant...lots of nautical and Maryland Waterman stuff. Our server, Blair was excellent! Prompt, friendly and helpful with suggestions. Our order was delivered exactly as requested and the food was mostly delicious. We had Crab Toast and Calamari appetizers and both were very good and not overly filling. They say they are famous for their Crab Balls, but I would highly recommend trying the Crab Toast. Served on Italian bread slices, which were perfectly toasted and not so crunchy that crumbs got everywhere. The crab dip topping was light, instead of saturated with heavy cream cheese and very flavorful with plenty of Crab meat. The calamari was seasoned well, although a tad bit salty. The dipping sauce was tasty and helped to cut the saltiness down. Our entree was Crab-stuffed Jumbo Shrimp which was phenomenal! Extremely flavorful and cooked to perfection. It's was so good that I would have difficulty trying another dish when I return to the restaurant. The sides where hit and miss. The apple sauce and baked potato were good, but the onion rings were the most bland and flavorless onion rings I've ever had. Couldn't even taste the onion, let alone any seasoning. The complimentary bread was also basic, although very soft. They reminded me of the rolls that KFC used to serve before switching to biscuits. (Not bad tasting, just very basic which did not compliment the meal). The overall meal was still fantastic, I just wouldn't order onion rings again. Also the sweet tea was some of the best that Ive ever had. If they sold it by the gallon I would've taken some home.
Suicide Bridge Restaurant also has to Paddle Boats that you can tour the river and dine on. They operate on a schedule and are an experience that is booked separately. Im sure that I'll be partaking of that experience in the future.
I read some reviews where other's experiences were quite so good as mine and I can only say that this restaurant gets super busy at times and during those times, it's possible that they can't always meet the same great service and awesome food standards. I would imagine that those aren't the normal occurances, but because of those reviews, we chose to go early rather than later. The restaurant wasn't full yet, there was no waiting, the food was fresh and our experience was outstanding. I will definitely be back and highly recommend Suicide...
Read moreThere are very few reviews on the cruise and the posted ones are several years old, so I wanted to write a current review. Our party of 4 took a luncheon cruise at the end of July and traveled nearly 3 hours each (we came separately from different directions but same amt of travel time). We have enjoyed meals in the restaurant and expected the food to be on an equal par, but it was FAR from it. FOOD: fried chicken with carrots and potatoes and crab cake. The food was served out of chaffing dishes which were not lit (ok, the boat moves), but the food was barely warm even though it arrived to the boat in a Cambro unit. I was happy when I saw that and remarked that the food would be hot (temperatures are very important for health as well as flavor). However, the Cambro unit wasnât warm so the food wasnât. I used identical units for food service for years and know they hold temp for hours. The chicken was ridiculous- two of us got a wing and chicken leg that would be appropriate for a 3 year old, the other 2 received a poorly cut chicken thigh. The potatoes were passable but not hot. The carrots ? Come on, who serves carrots as a side, unless you offer options. Again, not hot. There was a basket of rolls which was the meal highlight. Dessert was cheesecake which was frozen and served right out of the suppliers boxes but it was tasty. We were served soft drinks but saw some folks with coffee during dessert. We were never offered any and donât know if there was an up charge. The table behind us had 6 women and most of their meals were thrown out. We left portions too.
Service: mediocre at best. One server did bring drinks relatively quickly but didnât return for refills; we had to stop her and ask for refills. We asked for cocktail sauce for the crab cake which arrived halfway through the meal although there was plenty of time to bring it before serving the meal or with it. There was a storage area below the floor in about center of the room. At least 3 times the servers opened the hatch to access the area and dropped it when they were finished The noise was loud and startling and was totally unnecessary as the door could have been closed differently and if not, then that problem should be addressed. As soon as dessert was served, the staff started preparing for the next cruise and we did not have any more contact with them. THE BOAT: clean and though seating was tight, we were comfortable if we didnât move. BUT THE NOISE produced from the engine or something under the floor was painful. So loud that we couldnât hear one another. Absolutely spoiled the day and for the folks wearing hearing aids, even more uncomfortable. But the cabin was comfortably cool.
We did not go upstairs to the open deck so I canât speak to that area/service. The captain did a nice job and was friendly when we saw him. The cruise itself was ok.
The cost was $125 per couple. ABSOLUTELY not worth it and I would not recommend this...
