Cooks Cafe — Restaurant in Mason City

Cook's Cafe has friendly service and a cozy atmosphere. As others reviewers have experienced, it took over 30 minutes for our food to arrive but that was okay in our case. However, the food quality and portions for the price charged were both very disappointing.

Two of us ordered Loaded Hash Browns for $7.50 and we both thought there was a mistake and they accidentally gave us a side order of hash browns instead. The waitress verified we received the correct item. The portion size was about a quarter of what one would receive if they ordered the same item at another breakfast place like Ihop or Perkins.

Another ordered the Biscuits and Gravy for $7.95. When delivered this was three small biscuits with a bit of gravy. The biscuits were rubbery and the gravy was bland. Others in our party ordered some different entrees and their reactions were similar. All this made for a very...

We were there for 40 minutes, and we got up, paid, and left. The waitress was very nice, brought our bottles of soda and glasses of ice quickly. A few minutes after we ordered, she came back and said it'd be awhile. 15 minutes after that, she apologized for the wait and said there was a big group. We had no problem waiting, but the atmosphere became too much to ignore, and that was the reason we left. When we walked in and saw an older lady holding a baby and vaping, we knew we were in an interesting place. There was a very obnoxious and loud individual who was speaking very crass the entire time we were there. Ultimately I couldn't take the loud dialog and had to leave. Hated it!! We sat for over an hour after ordering our food and still nothing!! Only 2 adults and 2 children, so wasn't a very big order. We sat and colored with kids,, played quit a few games of tic tac toe, had 2 cups of coffee each even.. The kids were so hungry kept asking when our food was coming after seeing a couple other people get their food. We asked the waitresses and they kept saying "your orders coming out next the plates are out, so it'll be just another minute. " So 20 minutes later we left and it still wasn't ready!! They never even tried to give us any explanation to what was the hold up. Didn't say anything as we walked out door, so they are very rude and not too concerned with customer service.
