Rochas Tacos — Restaurant in McAllen

THIS IS HOW TACOS ARE MEANT TO BE! No lettuce, no shredded cheese, no tomato chunks, no SOUR CREAM! Just meat on a warm fresh tortilla. I had 6 tacos, each different meat. One tripas (tripe), one chicharrón (pork rind), one mole( chicken cooked with chocolate sauce), and the other three I don't even remember the meat. I just pointed and said give me that. All of them were sooooo good. I could have easily ordered another 6 and been a happy chunky customer. I don't even like mole but that won me over as well. The salsa? Spicy. The tortilla? Not made from scratch, but it was fresh and warm. The coke? Mexican coke of course. All of that and I stayed under $10? Every restaurant that wants to call themselves a taco place or a Mexican restaurant should take notes. If you're in the area, come here and learn how...

Their tacos are highly affordable. It's a low-cost restaurant, so don't expect any thrills. The food, however, is awesome! It's delicious and they have plenty of variety. There are two main reasons why I'm giving this place 3 stars instead of 5:

Their flour tortillas are very hit-and-miss. Some days they will be perfectly cooked, fresh, and soft. Other days you'll end up biting through what feels like two-day-old tortilla. If in doubt, go with the corn tortilla. They're always soft and fresh.

Their restrooms can definitely use some good cleaning. I know, I know, it's a cheap restaurant, but holy cow, their restroom feels like I should wear a full-body hazmat suit before I walk in there. They...

Wow!!! 🥰🥰 There was a language barrier with the ladies serving the food. They barely spoke English..maybe a few words. However, a few other customers stepped in to help us. The gentleman running the cash register spoke English and offered to make us nopales and salsa tacos after we explained we are vegan. They came out hot and fresh within a few minutes. Both the corn and flour tortillas were AMAZING!!! The green salsa was very flavorful but could have been a little spicier. 😉😉 We were both thoroughly impressed and will be back!!!
