If you are interested to learn about the people living in or around McArthur, ohio, this is the place to do just that.
This is a sports themed bar with a dining area in the back, which I would STRONGLY suggest you choose to have your meal, as the bar area can get a bit ... um... "lively" at times.
Two customers chose to have a political discussion as if they were in a noisy factory and not a small-ish room where a near whisper can be heard.
A third customer stood up and, in a rather profane manner, shut down the political argument with promises of pain.
I was forced to engage in conversation with a drunk who was VERY high on an unknown substance. Luckily he left and I could finish in peace.
And that's just the atmosphere.
I ordered their "chopped sirloin" with baked potato. The potato was Wonderful and thoroughly cooked. If you've ever had an undercooked baked potato you know how important this is.
The chopped sirloin was a different story. It tasted like something Doris the lunch lady would serve in school, with a sponge like consistency and a flavor that did NOT remind me of steak.
I could Not finish and even felt a bit nauseous after.
Although "Mama Renie's" is not advertised to be a Dinner Theater, they succeeded in providing unexpected entertainment that was both suspenseful and intriguing as well as an unusual meal that was filling, although lacking in enjoyment.
As previously stated, one can learn a great amount about McArthur in a short span of...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed in Hocking Hills last weekend. I planned on seeing a few sights around the area and wanted to take her out to eat. We were both craving pizza and my route for sight seeing was going to put us driving through McArthur. There are limited places but I found Mama Renie's Pizza that had dine in. It was a nice, cozy mom and pop restaurant. We both loved the atmosphere. Not modernized but very comfortable and it felt like we went back 20 years to less stressful times. We loved the support they showed for their local schools and sports. But the best part of the visit...THE PIZZA!! Probably one of the best pizza's I have had in a long time. Living near Columbus it is hard to find a good pizza let alone a pizza as great as the one we had at Mama Renie's. Thank you for the great food (we had the nachos too, which were equally as great) and welcoming us as if we were locals. A shout out to Brittany also who took care of us that day. A little bit of a drive but we will definitely return. McArthur is lucky...
Read moreThe inside looks dirty and once you sit down at a table you get to feel how dirty and sticky the surface really is, if that doesn't kill your appetite, I don't know what will. If they don't clean the dining area I shudder to even think what the kitchen looks like. The food is cheap(the prices are low) and somehow it still magages to make you feel like you've been ripped off. I asked for a side of hashbrowns, they gave me a frozen hashbrown patty, my father asked for a side of ham and they gave him a heated up slice of deli ham. The gravy taste canned, I'm 90% sure they use egg substitute (I had an omelet) it just didn't taste like egg, and was extremely thin. The pancakes were good because they probably buy premade mix. The only reason a diner like this is still open is because there is a serious lack of competition in this small town. The town is so small that Im surprised they have...
