56 Family Restaurant — Restaurant in McPherson

We were in town visiting family there and they took us to this restaurant for breakfast. We ordered and it took forever to get our food. It was a Saturday morning and noticed others getting served with their food who came in after us. Not sure if they have a call ahead ordering or not. We finally got our food and most of it was cold. One item we ordered was forgotten, but after letting the waiter know, she brought it to us. Our family frequent this restaurant all the time and was surprised how bad the service was that day. Not a good impression on our first visit there. He even complained to them about the food being cold and the response was because we were sitting under the ceiling fan. Not a good response at all.

I will give a 2nd chance- while food is good and so are the portions, the coffee is less than average and very watered down. This must be coffee grounds reused 2 or 3 times, likely due to older gentleman ( usually) that sit around and drink refills all morning...in my experience ( veteran of the grill line of sorts). I wouldn't usually leave a review however we don't get out much and I really look forward to my coffee in the morning. Their coffee tastes like water and paper filter- not good! I had hoped after a refill ( half each time) it would get a little better- which it did not- it got lighter and you could see through the pot on the last one which I couldn't drink...and I'm an Army Veteran- which says a lot. I'm use to field coffee and this was worse. Loved the food except the prepackaged singles cheese. Waitress was nice and took care of us otherwise. Hey, we will give it a second go- we enjoy small...

This place is amazing! My girlfriend and I stopped here and had lunch. We got there around 12:30pm and they were serving their lunch and breakfast orders. My girl ordered the chopped beefsteak with mushroom & onion gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans, while I chose the country fried steak breakfast platter which included one HUGE hand breaded country fried steak, hash brown potatoes, 2 eggs and 2 slices of toast. Both of us were incredibly pleased with the quality of the food! It was apparent that the staff cared about the quality of the food that was served, and that care pays off with a delicious meal! 56FR also has mini pies and cakes that are again hand made and the quality is stellar! We had one strawberry, and one chocolate pie, and both were just phenomenal! I will absolutely go out of my way to go here...
