So excited to see a Mexican restaurant open in meeker ok. Was very disappointed however. I will try and give a fair review. First of all you walk in and the atmosphere was not Mexican except for a few hats hanging on the wall. Tables were very antiquated. Our server was very nice but we had to ask for everything from napkins and silverware to refills on drinks and chips. The menu. Not sure how to explain this. It was borderline weird. Not many options. They had hot dogs and hamburgers but no enchiladas. Tacos were good and Taco salad but honestly, a fast food in Shawnee has a much better Taco salad. The prices were very fair. No side of beans or rice was served with anything. 4 of us went and we all tried something different and no beans and rice. I kind of felt like this concept would make a better food truck then a sit down restaurant. My husband and I wanted to love this place but we will be driving to chandler for us to get good Mexican food. Maybe this is more fitting for lunch then a date night. Also no alcohol. I am hoping owners will chime in and say they are still working on menu improvements and a few other improvement. If so I will try again and update...
Read moreIn a small town (Meeker) just north of Shawnee on hwy 18, there's a new Mexican food joint worth your time. I lived in Mexico for several years, so I love when I encounter some authentic flavor. I ate here one time before and ordered the quesadilla which was delicious, but where this place really shines for me are their Quesa Birria Tacos. The shredded brisket was tender and full of flavor, and the tortillas were toasted perfectly. I loved the additional grilled onions and serrano pepper to add to the tacos. Also, I found the consume very tasty. The salsa is simple but has good flavor and a kick to it, and the queso dip had some cooked bell peppers and onions in it which added a nice touch. Our server was kind, friendly and attentive. The menu is simple and offers more specific items rather than a huge plate full of sides. The prices are very reasonable, and you can easily eat there for under $15.00. I...
Read moreI have eaten at El Vaquero twice now. Both times I have been greeted by friendly staff. The warm family atmosphere is felt immediately. Chips, salsa and queso brought to the table immediately, during my second visit I asked to try their specialty salsas and really enjoyed the warm spicy salsa and the salsa verde.
First visit I got the pastor tacos and was very impressed. Then I tried my husbands Birria tacos and was blown away. I watched another table be brought the ramen and knew we would be back soon to try it.
Second visit I ordered the Birria ramen and loved it!! Huge portion size to where I got a second meal out of it the next day! Husband got loaded fries and I ate half of my daughter’s kids meal fries because they were so good!
We will be regulars here for sure and that’s with living 20...
