Stopped in for the first time on a Sat. morning. The place was busy but not crowded. The menu has a nice selection of breakfast and lunch items. Daily specials were listed on the board. We had the half-order of bisquits and gravy and the New York Eggs Benedict.
I believe the cafe got its start baking muffins and bisquits for local stores and such. It is obvious from the bisquits and gravy why they opened a cafe. The bisquits are deliciuos. BIG, FLUFFY, BUTTERY, MELT IN YOUR MOUTH delicious. The gravy was very good and had a nice spice. Only critique we can give is a little bigger and less uniform sausage would give it a more home style taste and texture. Still an excellent dish.
The New York Eggs Benedicts is 2 poached eggs on top of homemade corned beef hash, rye bread and a healthy topping of hollandaise. It was fantastic. The hash is perfect with the egg and hollandaise. The rye holds up well to the corned beef. It was a excellent combo.
A special local Ethiopian coffee brew was being served. Our waitress asked if we wanted to try the special brew. We did. It was very good but discovered refills cost extra. Not a big deal but we should have been informed. Also, with special coffee should come real cream in a creamer, not little prepackaged cups. Coffee does not taste or show as well with the prepackaged cups. Raw sugar eould be a plus. Again, a minor detail.
Service was very good, freindly and attentive. The decor is nothing special but it is roomy with a counter area to sit in addition to booths and tables.
We will definitely go back. I look forward to trying more baked goods and the pancakes look absolutely...
Read moreThis family owned business is a gem! We started off @ Backwater. When we called to inquire about staff wearing masks and social distancing the tables, we were assured they do both. When we arrived, my husband went inside to check the wait time and inquire about social distancing after he saw that there was NO SOCIAL DISTANCING. He was told they could set us up in high tops, so I guess they intimated that sitting higher than regular height tables satisfies social distancing. We were out of there!!! When I checked the web for other breakfast eateries, I stumbled upon the Mulberry Lane Cafe. ALL their reviews had 5 stars. All their reviews were EXCELLENT! We didn't even have to ask about masks and social distancing because the reviews verified both. What a wonderful eating experience we had! My husband ordered eggs over easy, fantastic hash brown done perfectly, and sausage patty. I ordered the shrimp benedict with home fries done crispy and a side of grits. OMG!!! The grits were the BEST I've ever tasted. The shrimp benedict rocked!!! Our server was attentive and professional. We're not often in that area, but anytime moving forward, we will make it our business to stop there for another super satisfying...
Read moreThe food here is really good however the waitress who I was told is the manager was so rude to me . Had breakfast here many times same person is just very serious business and don’t mess with me demeanor. Today I asked her for a sample of the chicken salad because I told her we were going to take orders to go, her response was, well I guess ,which why can’t you just say sure I’ll bring you a small taste of that or I’ll see what I can do. She never came back to the table to tell me yes or no , we had to ask for her to come and take our order since we had finished our breakfast, she took my husband’s order never addressed my chicken salad and never asked me if I wanted to order a darn thing today she was just rude. She’s always borderline on edgey today just outright rude ,so I voiced my concerns to the cashier and she said well she is the manager and I said I don’t care ,because it doesn’t mean you have to be rude because you’re a manager or shortstaffed. I can understand the food being late if you’re shortstaffed but don’t be rude to me. Don’t say something inappropriate and rude and think it’s just because you’re shortstaffed that is not true. It will never be true....
