They got it going on: ♔♔♔♔♔ One Meat, Two Vegetables = $10.01 OK folks this is no joke, the real deal of a local talented southern comforts style soul meal. I've had the tried and trued candied yams, corn, broccoli/cheese, the brown beans are my favoured, The navy beans and greens all seem so darn tasty. But wait till you lay your eyes on the meats. The darbequed riblettsā™”, OMG! or the Ham hocksā™” and if your like me you just have to try the ham shanksā™”, they count for two hocks. All are there just marinating, while you decide between the the Turkey legsā™”, or wingsā™”, smothered pork chopsā™”, chicken fried steak, or that tasty southern baked chickenā™”. And a warm Golden yellow duttered cornbread muffin. So slide, on over. 'cause there's sure to be someone in line behind you. Oh no pressure! Just very pleasant down to earth type folks. Any questions just ask, until then, might see you there my I just suggest you just digin. ~ Samuel F Campbell

Oh... They done it again. Today was Veterans Day; I was asked to stop in and pickup work lunch orders. I got a delicious food orders. To start with: (Plate #1. Two fried pork-chops, Mac covered in cheese, green beans, and cornbread. $12.00) (Plate #2 Fish stuffing yams and cornbread.) Total just had to pay for one meal instead of two.šŸ‘ HAPPY...

The customer service was TERRIBLE TODAY, nasty attitude and smart mouth co workers. The female that was fixing my to go order got upset with me bcz I kindly asked her if she would use any other ToGo carry out carton bcz the one she picked up was lying on the dirty surface on top of the buffet. She got a WHOLE ATTITUDE became argumentative and then her co workers put in their two cents. I didn’t want to cause a scene so I remained calm and told her I wanted greens and squash, then I asked her what one of the meats was bcz I couldn’t tell bcz the liquid in the container covered it up ; she said Turkey Necks so I asked for that. After she put the small amount of squash and greens in the container she kneeled down with my food tray in her hands and started to do something with the food ( I could not see what see was doing) at that point that didn’t feel right to me and I didn’t say a word I just walked out. I went to the Cupboard on Union Ave. After thinking about it after I got home I called and told the Mgr Ashley my experience and she was very professional and apologetic and offered to comp my meal next time I come. (I probably will never go back there again). I HATE POOR AND NASTY CUSTOMER SERVICE…..ESPECIALLY...

The food looked absolutely delicious but could not believe the greens were tasteless and beans taste like they were just poured out of a can. The cornbread muffins were bland. The food was not seasoned! Someone in that kitchen doesn't know how to season food! FIRE the cook! Spent over $30 on three plates and end up tossing most of the food. Because there were three orders of beans. I took the beans home with the ham hock (which was huge), added some garlic powder, onion powder, chopped onions, salt, pepper, a little butter and a few chopped tomatoes bought to a boil, let it simmer for 45 mins...BAM! now the beans were cooked AND seasoned! The baked chicken and cheese broccoli was good, just could have done better on the beans, cornbread and greens. Also, my friend had the fried chicken and could not eat it because it had a spoiled smell. So another plate of food was tossed! The staff were very nice but season the food and check for spoilage! Remember this is soul food and it should be cooked with love...

Decided to stop in on the way to a conference. Got the ham hock as shown on the picture. The service was good. The lady offered to put gravy and cranberry relish on the stuffing. I didn’t understand why the stuffing tasted grainy like fine sand. I thought maybe the gravy was not smooth. Turns out the grainy taste is because the stuffing is made from the corn bread. Thr stuffing was sort of bland. Even the gravy didn’t help. The cranberry relish turned out to be from a can (you can tell as it had that round shape). The first side of the ham hock was good as first. It was done okay so it didn’t take a lot of work to get the meat off the bone. The other side, with most of the meat, was not so done. Took a lot of work to get the meat off and the skin was tough. All in all, an okay place to get some home style soul food.

I normally go to Marvin’s when I want soul food but since I was on close to downtown, I decided to give them a try. There wasn’t a long line like I’m use to and the selections were smaller. I got two plate with baked chicken (half), turkey necks, greens, black-eyed peas, and lima beans. At first glance, I thought the turkey were neck bones. I wasn’t alone bc the guy in front of me thought the same. They were seasoned but I didn’t like the fact that they were chopped small. The chicken was seriously dry. I couldn’t eat the wing. The beans, peas and greens had no seasoning all but I definitely understand with the rising cases of high blood pressure in our community. But the greens taste really terrible. I thought I was eating chittlins. And the food was weirdly cold as well. All in all, they’re ok. Stay away from the greens.
