Summary for the busy executive: A small-town gem! Gifts, clothing, a cafe --- something for everybody!
Full review: I'm a native of Mendenhall, MS who has moved away. I visit family about once a year, and I always take a keen interest on how business is doing downtown --- what's thriving, and what has closed. Unfortunately, the latter category is usually the case; the town has a hard time supporting local businesses. Fortunately, Mendenhall Mercantile has bucked this trend, and it sits proudly at the base of Main Street, well stocked and serving happy customers every time that I have visited over the last few years.
The business is in the old Grocery and Grain building, sitting adjacent the railroad tracks and facing "Old" Highway 49. A hardwood deck with seating invites customers inside.
Once in the historic building, one's senses are delighted with a huge array of gifts, decorations, and clothing. The items on sale here aren't exactly cheap, but they are extremely attractive, tastefully displayed, and of high quality.
In the middle of the building, one finds the children's room, with books, stuffed animals, and clothes.
At the back of the building, there is a cafe. It has reasonably priced (honestly cheap by today's standards) sandwiches and other lunch items, fancy espresso and drip coffee drinks, and refreshing cold drinks for hot summer days. Seating is plentiful and pleasant. And everybody inside the store and cafe is welcoming and friendly.
