The overall experience was pretty good. The staff was very nice, the ambience was nice. Very quiet, good for date night.
That being said, they have room for improvement.
Here is our experience:
We were greeted right away, had a reservation, but the restaurant was less than half full. Ordered a wine and appetizer.
The shrimp cocktail was $14. That's not unexpected, but when it arrived with literally 3 shrimp, we were thoroughly underwhelmed.
Ordered our entree's that came with bread and a salad according to menu description. The bread and butter was fine.
The salads never arrived. Next thing we know our entree's were dropped off.
We ordered the salmon and the Veal. The Veal plate was huge. Two filets, side spaetzel and carrot salad. That plate was reasonably priced at $30.
However, the salmon looked to be from a different chef entirely. There was a single small filet, served lukewarm, with a side of potatoes and the same carrot salad. The potatoes were the best thing on the plate. The salmon was cooked perfectly, but being served lukewarm was surprising and the carrot salad desperately needed salt. $25 for that was such a contrast to the veal plate.
It was a lovely evening, I don't blame the staff, but I was so thoroughly underwhelmed when I expected a truly too tier experience.
Advice to the restaurant: examine your menu to rebalance your costs. You could decrease portions of some and increase portions of others. Plus, if the menu says the meal comes with a salad, deliver the salad.
Lovely restaurant but not...
Read moreMy wife and I went to The Countryman's Pleasure for a couple of reasons. It was my birthday and as we had lived in Germany (Bavaria), it was a trip down memory lane. We had an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms, Sauerbraten for an entree and for desert, Linzer Torte for my wife and Strudel for me. Words cannot describe how delicious that meal was. It was absolutely great and the service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and very knowledgeable. If I have anything negative to say it would concern the restaurant's website. It REALLY needs to be worked on. It is not well organized. Much of the text is a dark gray on a brown background making it very difficult to read. There is a feature that allows one to make reservations, but for a date only. There's no way to enter a time. The website notwithstanding, my wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable meal with outstanding service. If it's authentic Austrian or German cuisine you're looking for, we highly recommend the Countryman's Pleasure. We'll be...
Read moreMy husband and I dined here. We decided to order the German pretzel with cheesy mustard sauce for an appetizer with our drinks. It was a bit of a disappointment ~ very doughy and heavy and a little lackluster. On the other hand the little yeast rolls, plain and those topped with orange marmalade, were simply delicious. They were hot and flaky. We both ordered the Jagerschnitzel which was served with spaetzle and dilled carrots. The Jagerschnitzel was flavorful and the sauce was quite good. However, mine was a bit tough, a little too thick for my liking, and had a fair amount of grissel in it. The spaetzle and carrots should have been hotter. The side salad served with the meal was delicious except for the "roasted" cherry tomatoes. They simply looked and felt like overripe or spoiled tomatoes. The alsatian dressing was light and delicious. Our servers, Kim and Trista made the experience. Both were very friendly, helpful...
