My wife and I first found this restaurant, completely by accident, as we drove right by it during an antiquing excursion during a weekend. As we passed it, it reminded me of restaurants in the past, like Twin Oaks located in the Cranston, RI area. I ended up googleing the restaurant, and found it had been around since like 1947, albeit this was a newer version, for the first restaurant was destroyed by fire some years ago. I looked at my wife and said,, we have to try this place, and we did, a few months later, and actually dined twice in one week.
As we entered the restaurant, the first thing we noticed, the restaurant was spotless, so clean, we were greeted right away, and sat in a section of one of two dining areas. We were then greeted by our server, Linda, whom by the way, was excellent. I ended up getting a house Special, the twin Lamb Shanks, which were phenomenal!! Braised in a Tomato based sauce, served with a hot and fresh Baked Potato, and I chose the Green Beans as a vegetable side, which were noticeably canned, but oh sooo good. My wife had the fried fish sandwich, which was recommended, and my God, was one of the freshest pieces of Haddock I had ever tasted!! It was Breaded, but not lije the traditional beer batter, this was a bit different, more like corn bread flour, something I just could not figure out, but sooo good.
Through the whole dining experience, Linda came to our table several times to check on us, never forgetting about us, as we could clearly see the restaurant was starting to fill and quickly become busy. When we were done, I couldn't stop talking about how good those Lamb Shanks were, so much she brought out the Chef, Martin, whom would not disclose a secret ingredient in the Tomato based sauce, smart Chef!! That's coming from a Chef, me.
All in all, this restaurant will be on our list to dine, one or two times a month, great food, good service, fantastic atmosphere, good poured drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and extremely reasonable in pricing, and in the portions...
Read moreI get a kick with some of the reviews here-bananas, strawberries, blueberries were not fresh with a waffle. Really? You mean they don't have a banana tree in the back. Then another-my tomato made my omelet mushy...wow. Who would ever think?
Now my review. I am done with Bistros and fancy restaurants. Maybe nice food but at a price to pay. The atmosphere usually modern to cold. What I love about Lowells is it is jump into something rustic and out of the past. Very simply, nice atmosphere with good down home food, fantastic prices and a couple of waitresses that were singing their way through the morning. The menu is vast with a lot of old favorites. By the way, the they had a lot of help and the place was bustling. The portions were more than I could handle and I am good eater. SO, price, quality, variety, friendliness, atmosphere all 5 stars for me. I went to a place 2 weeks ago that cost 6 times more than I paid here. That place? Never go back! This place, if I lived closer, at least once a week.
The trouble with theses Google reviews is people are very entitled and even harder to please these days. My feeling is if you are going to leave a place like this a bad review, stick to your fancy bistros and fancy restaurants. You will get your nice food and you will use your paycheck to buy dinner...and maybe your waiter/waitress will even wipe your chin for you.
Thanks Lowell's, great spot and I...
Read moreIâve been driving by Lowellâs for years and finally wandered in one slow Tuesday, just lookinâ for a solid home-cooked meal. That place feels like folks either grew up next door or maybe just popped in for breakfast, lunch, or dinnerâthereâs no pressure, just good food and comfy vibes. The menuâs massiveâItalian favorites like chicken parm, lasagna, and eggplant parm share space with seafood specials, lamb shanks, breakfast classics, burgersâall served any time of day .
What grabbed me most was the kindness behind the counter. One reviewer said the staff âmade us feel like guests in their home,â and I got that vibe right away . The portions? Generous enough to send you home with lunch for tomorrow. Someone came right up to us with a smile and water, and the place felt clean and friendly .
Sure, Iâm not blind to complaintsâsome folks grumbled about prices or a missed greeting . But for me, the good far outweighs the grumbles. You get that real-deal comfort food with honest service, all without fancy airs. If you're looking for a reliable, neighborhood spot with hearty meals and a welcoming feel, Lowellâs hits the mark easy. Plus they always stab the burgers to make sure...
