Jalapeño Buck's — Restaurant in Mesa

Food: Brisket was excellent, and I like to think I make great brisket myself, so my bar is pretty high. Other food seemed good, pork was a bit dry, red chilli burrito was good too, but I mostly stuck with the brisket.

2 star review is entirely about the service we received on new years eve. We placed a largish catering order days in advance, we placed it for pickup at 2:45 which they accepted but then later called and said they were actually going to close at 2pm on that day so we need to be sure to pickup then, and they were clear that they were firmly closing at that time and we couldn't be late, so we showed up at 1:38 I told them I was sorry we were early but wanted to be sure not to be late. the gentleman told me "that's OK, but it will be a few minutes we are very busy" I said "like 10 minutes?" and he said yes. I sat there for nearly 30 minutes literally watching them take orders and serve virtually all of the people that were in line or even joined the long line after I got there. After 30 min I asked the woman at the counter if our order was almost ready and she wrote down my name and said, "yes, just a couple of others in front of you" then I sat there for another 12 or so watching them serve at least 5 more people in front of us including one woman who approached the window and said "I'm the woman that just called in on my way here" and her order was a large order of burritos (something that actually takes them some time to assemble). At that point I was very disappointed that they would prioritize all of these small orders of last second requests plus this large last minute order over our order for 100s of dollars that was called in days in advance. Finally got our food (or so we thought) around 2:23 (45 min after we arrived, 23 min after our time that was scheduled days in advance). When she mentioned all the food items I admitted I wasn't sure of the quantities (a relative placed the order) but she did mention all the right items. I asked "is this all of it?" and she replied "yes". So we took off. After we were 5 miles down the road they call us to say they forgot to give us the pork, so we turn around and go back, when I walked up to the window I got nothing more than a "sorry about that", as it was obvious they were completely unaware of how much they had inconvenienced us from start to finish. I can be pretty tolerant of poor service and you can see most of my reviews are positive reviews as I don't like to complain but this was just handled so poorly from start to end, I felt I needed...

Don't get me wrong, I really like the food, but the service has been pretty bad the last few times I have been here. I called in an order at 2PM on August 2nd 2025 to pick up for dinner at 6PM. While on the phone I was told by the girl that I needed to pay over the phone, whatever, no problem. I show up around 5:50PM and go up to the pick up window and say I am a little early (I was picking food up for a family dinner and didn't want it to just sit there and get cold). I let the girl at the window know that I was a little early but wanted to check the status just to be safe. She asked for the name on the order, and I told her, but she said she didn't see it in the system. She asked another girl and they asked if I had already paid for it, and that since I did, it wouldn't show up on the screen they were looking at but assured me it should be ready soon.

I waited around for about 20 minutes and saw multiple people show up after me, order their food, get their order and either left or sat down and were eating. I went back up to the window and asked how much longer she thought it would be. She asked me what I had ordered and I started telling her, but then she cut me off halfway through (as I said, it was for family dinner so it was a decent sized order) and told me that she thinks they are making it right now and that it should only be about 5 more minutes.

I keep waiting and about 15-20 minutes later she calls me up and again asks for the name on the order. She once again says she cannot find the order and asks if it could be under a different name; I said no, I am the one that ordered it and I gave my name. She then asked me again what all I had ordered and said that they would have to put it in all over again. So then I had to wait another 5-10 minutes for the food. Once it was done, she calls me up, hands me the bags and says "sorry for the wait" like it had just been 5-10 minutes...

As I said, I really like the food here, but the service has been declining every time I eat here, which is disappointing. I ended up waiting for almost an hour for an order that I had put in 4 hours earlier. I can totally understand a short wait, but this was pretty ridiculous. This same thing has happened to people I know, so I know it's not me just...
