Porky's Smokehouse — Restaurant in Middlesex Township

We are SO happy we chose Steve to cater our wedding (and rehearsal dinner and post wedding brunch!). We got married in a barn at Armstrong Farms and were looking to keep with a casual, backyard-BBQ theme and AF recommended Stephen's Kitchen - we went for a tasting (pulled pork, cornbread, baked beans, mac and cheese) and didn't even pull out of the parking lot before we emailed Steve back and said "please be our caterer!" We went with the Pig Roast with an added panko-crusted chicken which I still dream about. He also catered our small rehearsal dinner with a classic chicken piccata meal and sides but the quality was out of this world. And THEN he catered our post-wedding brunch with a waffle bar and the best bacon I've ever had. Steve was great to work with - super laid back, very knowledgeable and able to help us craft a menu for our needs. I forgot to mention that we decided to forego wedding cake and had a pie spread instead - Stephen baked 14 fresh and delicious assorted pies that were a huge hit. Just walked in and noticed a slab of unrefrigerated raw meat just sitting by itself on the floor of a panel truck. I guessed someone was probably in the process of unloading it. I walked in just out of curiosity at 4:10pm and asked if it was too early for their business hours (listed at starting at 4:30 for dinner). The woman who was behind the counter was unfriendly and not informative. I asked about the menu, and she said it was online implying that there were no hard copies available. The deli case had several dishes inside, most of which looked fairly dried out (did not appear fresh). My subsequent questions were met with frowns, and so I decided to leave. On the way out, I mentioned the meat slab in the truck outside, and she said, "He'll get it." Several minutes after I'd arrived, I left and noticed the meat still sitting out of refrigeration in the truck. Not making any judgment calls, but I think the facts speak...

I had Stephen cater our wedding at The Mansion in October of 2019 and I cannot express to you how impressed we were with Stephen. We did a station style set up that was an eclectic blend of our favorite foods. This can pose issues for lesser chefs since you are making everything from chicken and waffles to traditional Italian in one meal, but Stephen NAILED IT. The presentation, staff, and above all the food was phenomenal. When serving Italian food to Italian matriarchs, you take a chance, but Stephen's cooking impressed even the toughest critics.
