Went here tonight. Honestly, it was a disappointing experience. After reading the rave reviews about this place on here combined with seeing the line out the front door even though I arrived 5 minutes after they opened - I expected to be blown away by the quality and flavor of the food.
Overall, it was 'meh'. Nothing was particularly bad about my food, but I absolutely do not understand why there's a huge line outside to get in here. The local restaurants around the area have the same/better Mexican food honestly. I got 3 beef street tacos, on corn tortillas. As another reviewer mentioned - you only get 1 corn tortilla, not 2. I really dislike when Mexican restaurants cheap out and only give you 1 corn tortilla. The beef was dry and lacked flavor. However - I will say, the meat was not chewy or gritty, so that was a plus.
My sister got pork which I tried a piece of - it too was on the dry side, although again, not 'bad'. It was not chewy, gritty, or fatty - so that was good.
My sister was very excited to get the aqua fresca, however - they were already out of it, despite opening literally minutes before we got there. Why they didn't make more between lunch and dinner, I don't know.
The parking was crammed in. Lot is small, and if we hadn't arrived when we did, it would have been impossible to find a spot to park.
The thing that really ultimately bothered both my sister and I is that if you pay with a credit card - you get charged the service fee. That's fine, I can understand that. However, my sister and I both paid in cash - and they do not give you your change back. I understand it may only be 50 cents for each person's order, but that adds up, and frankly - it's not right of them to be just keeping. We were both going to leave a tip until we saw them doing that, but when you blatantly just keep money owed back to us without asking or letting us know, then nope.
Nothing about the food, service, etc was 'bad', but it was all very unremarkable. The inside was very nicely painted however. Whomever did their painting did a very nice job.
Ultimately - given the cost, keeping our change, the difficulties parking, and the long wait just to order - neither her or I...
Read moreMy family and I tried this place last night for the first time and we actually waited around town an hour just to eat there for them to reopen at 4:30 instead of going somewhere else because of the many good reviews and photos of the food looked good, plus I am a sucker for a salsa bar!! I honestly wasn't blown away and very likely won't be back simply because although I do appreciate restaurants trying to accommodate vegetarians, most just don't know how to do that. We are still hungry and do still want to eat food! I got the vegetarian bowl and the girl ringing us up was not the friendliest and when she asked me which beans I would like, pinto or black, I asked for both please. Especially since beans are a primary protein source for me, much like my meat and I truly do love both! I was told they could not do that for some strange reason and if I wanted both I would need to pay an upcharge. I didn't necessarily want a double portion although after getting my bowl that had almost no beans in it, I definitely would have paid for a double portion of beans! I just wanted half/half but they would not accommodate that. I have never had a place not happily do both black and pinto beans for me ever. I just don't think that most people know how to feed a vegetarian unfortunately. But I think it was over $10.99 for a small bowl of mostly rice and I left still hungry and had to go home and make myself a meal anyway. Which is odd because my son got a torta and it was ginormous!!! Like at least a foot long sandwich completely loaded with tons of meat and toppings and came with french fries too! For dang near the same price he got a huge meal absolutely loaded with beef which costs at least 10x the price of some beans. Rice also costs almost nothing. So, I guess I just don't see why vegetarians almost get penalized for not eating meat. My son was very satisfied with his meal and I could understand why. So, I guess if you are hungry, get a torta! Salsa bar was good, but I usually like pico de gallo and cilantro and things at a salsa bar, which they did not have. Not much salsa variety for those who don't like a lot of spice. I wish them well, but I just wasn't impressed at all...
Read moreLet me start by saying the food was EXCELLENT. We ordered the street tacos and you definitely get more than you paid for. Flavors are amazing, though they need to have two tortillas under each taco. We stopped here to pick up lunch, and it was PACKED. Unfortunately the health inspector was there too and when he finished his inspection he called someone (I assume the person in charge and cook) back to go over the results. While this happened the entire line ground to a complete halt. It seemed that the other 3/4 staff members didn't know what to do to continue completing the 10 orders waiting. On top of this their computers went down and they couldn't take orders. It ended up taking 45 minutes to get our 7 tacos. I hope to update this later...we LOVED the food, but their processes need work to make it flow better and improve service time. I will definitely try again in...
