We went to eat for my father's 80th birthday and we were very excited. We have been going to captain joe's for a long time. The server she was very pleasant, waited on us right away. We got there about 5:40 in the evening. My father ordered the catfish platter and we ordered the platter four two we ordered two of those.Because there was five of us. On the menu, it says that it comes with fried shrimp, oysters, devil, crab clam strips, hot, boil shrimp and crab cakes. It comes with the soup and salad bar and one side.We ordered baked potatoes and one order of fries with it. We went up to the salad bar and it is usually nice, but tonight it was a total train wreck. A lot of the stuff was empty. All I had was some lettuce, and a little bit of tuna salad. Almost everything was empty on it. My father had the shrimp with rice soup and the rice was hard in the soup. It's like it had been sitting there for hours. It was not good. So we had our little bit of lettuce and ate that and waited for a food and waited waited and waited server, she was very nice. She came back 3 times and told us it was coming out all in total. We waited an hour for our dinner. The server brought out my father's catfish plate. He got to eat, then we got the two seafood platters about another fifteen minutes later, the seafood platters had popcorn shrimp on them not fantail shrimp and the steam shrimp was ice cold. The baked potatoes, you could put your finger in it. They were cold. The food was horrible, fifty one dollars for a seafood platter and they're gonna serve you popcorn shrimp now, mind you, we ordered two of them. And we waited over an hour and almost fifteen minutes for this. We were starving. So when she brought the food, I said, no way, I can't eat this. It's all cold and I'm not eating popcorn. Shrimp, not for $51. It was the kind of shrimp you could get at walmart in the frozen section. The manager came and she said, I'm so sorry, but but the kitchen is behind now. Mind you This isn't the first time we've been there. They did this before where we had to wait. Almost an hour for our food that time, we got lucky and it was semi hot, but this time I said no way. I'm not paying for this. For popcorn shrimp, I asked her why they put popcorn shrimp, and she says, it says fantail shrimp on the menu, and she wanted to kind of argue with me about it, and I said, oh no, no I don't have time for this. Charge me for whatever, take it back. I'm not eating it. I don't want it and I told her it'd be the last time we ever go there. This the service was good. I feel sorry for them, because the cooks they're terrible. They need to replace them and the management. Because she has every excuse in the book and taken up for these cooks who are ruining this business. This place used to be awesome. And every time I have been there now, it has gotten worse and worse. And we're done, we will go to bjs. We will drive the extra 20 miles to get great service and hot food. The prices that this the restaurant is charging is overpriced. Especially for the quality of the food. You do not serve popcorn shrimp on a fifty one dollar platter, it should be fantail shrimp. If that was the case, I could have bought that crap at walmart i cooked it myself. So thank you forever's reading miss. Uh, be aware that this place has gone way down. And I feel really bad for the servers, because they are super nice, but they need to do something with that kitchen and the management, because she charged us fifty four dollars for 4 salad bars and I thought this was ridiculous, because we only ate lettuce, there was nothing on the salad bar. It was empty, but that's fine. I paid it and it'll be the last time they ever get a dime from us. So thanks again, who...
Read moreI understand times are tough for businesses now, and good employees are hard to come by, but I feel like I have to say something. I've been dying to try captain Joe's for awhile now, but probably will never return. We got there and it was decently busy, but most were leaving as we came in. Even so, the dirty tables sat dirty for a long time after they were gone. Understandable since our waitress was outside talking to someone in a car most of that time. We got our drinks and ordered food and didn't see the waitress again for a long time. I even pretty loudly asked my husband across the room if there really were no forks at the salad bar since I couldn't ask my waitress and he was watching fish with my daughter. Nobody cared to offer me one though, so I ate my salad with a soup spoon best I could. Our waitress comes in finally, and is loudly talking with another worker about how gross and messy a table was and loudly exclaimed "like who raised you?" As if there were not other customers sitting there. My 17minth old drops his French fry on the ground and all I can think is what is she going to say when I'm gone? It's a baby, it happens, and I'd usually tip more to make up for it if I had good service. Our waitress sits and talks with a man at another table, so I know she can be friendly, she just must have disliked us from the minute we walked in for some reason. Eventually everyone gets their food except for me. My clam strips burned, it happens, but since everyone else had foor, she could have at least brought me my potato. Anyway, she gives my husband his plate and walks off, doesn't bother to give us silverware still. Takes a minute for her to even come out again when my husband gets the waitresses attention to get something to eat with. Unfortunately his catfish was very bland, like not even salted. Kids shrimp was good, kids fish was good. His was just plain and unedible to him. He also didn't get any hushpuppies on his plate. My plate did finally come and taste alright although butter for the potato would have been nice. It just sucked that he was already frustrated with his food and atmosphere and ready to go before I could even taste mine, so it couldn't be enjoyed. What's worse, not 5 minutes after I finally get my food, the waitress comes back not to check on our food, but to ask if we want our check now. No offer of desert or anything, which was a little disappointing since the first picture you see on Google is 2 cheesecakes that look quite good. She was in such a rush to get us out the door, but then we had to sit there and wait to pay because she didn't know how to do that either. There was just too much to write it off as being new, or short staffed. She just didn't care. We were the only ones in there most of the time. It was also kind of gross that all the silverware was out at a back table just sitting there. Nobody was working on putting them together in napkins, but clearly someone had been because they left their old gross food sitting right beside the clean forks and spoons that were just...
Read moreI visited Captain Joe's this past Saturday, driving in from Atlanta based on my father and his girlfriend’s enthusiastic recommendations. Unfortunately, my experience quickly turned sour.
Upon arrival, I felt uncomfortable due to a worker who seemed to be watching us from the register the entire time. When I ordered water, the quality was so poor that I ended up going to my car for my own bottled water. My father and his girlfriend ordered sweet tea, but the waiter brought a pitcher of unsweetened tea instead.
For my meal, I ordered the $33 broiled seafood platter, substituting shrimp for oysters and clam strips, with a baked sweet potato as my side. When the food arrived, I was shocked. The platter consisted of tiny, grocery store-style shrimp that looked microwaved, a thin sliver of fish, a single shrimp in a cup with a lot of seasoning, and a deviled crab that tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. I honestly thought they’d just forgotten part of my meal, so I waited patiently. My father and his girlfriend, who had been here before, were also disappointed, noticing that the portion sizes had decreased significantly.
When I asked the waitress if the rest of my meal was coming, she told me, “That’s it.” I was stunned! I then asked about my missing baked sweet potato, which she rushed to bring in a to-go box. When I finally saw it, it looked unappetizing, like it had been left in the trash.
Upon paying, I politely expressed my disappointment to the cashier, a woman with gold teeth. She insisted the food was “just how it looks when it’s broiled.” I told her I’d take the shrimp home and finish cooking them myself. In the end, I felt as though I’d wasted $85 on meals that wasn’t worth it.
I hope they can improve their management and quality soon—because, as it stands, I wouldn’t...
