This place was talked up quite a bit. So we thought we'd try it out. The choices are pretty cool for burgers. Maybe a tad overkill with the amount, but still, it's a cool idea. Waited 30 min to get a table, party of 3, no big deal. Drinks/app order was fairly quick (cheese curds were really good). Ordered a burger with pulled pork on it & a side of onion rings. A burger with egg/ham/waffle fry on it and the stacker with added ingredients. Pulled pork one had one tiny piece of pork on it, got chips instead of onion rings. Egg/ham/ waffle fry one had a partial egg (seriously, a fried egg cut in half), the waffle fry was the size of a quarter, not kidding. There is no big issue with the stacker other than, just like every order, was rubbery, lukewarm. Finally got the onion rings, and they were sitting under the heat for a while. Everything was just a rubbery, soggy mess. After the server took our order, we never saw her again & nobody checked on us. Had to ask another server for everything. Oddly enough, the burger patties themselves tasted good, though. They didn't taste frozen. They were still on a wait while we were eating and the 2 hosts kept talking to each other, pointing at us and saying "they'll be outta here soon" which, in itself is not a problem cuz they're just figuring out how fast the seating list can go down but the constant walking by, looking at how much we had left, hearing them talk about it, made us feel rushed. Maybe it was just a bad night, cooks/staff weren't on their game, idk but very...
Read moreWent with neighbors who had heard about this being one of the best burger places in MN. I was unimpressed by the food.
It wasn't bad by any means. The atmosphere was great, the service was acceptable, and the prices were very reasonable. It was very busy for a Tuesday evening in a small town in the summer. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated.
They have a huge selection of interesting burgers and a nice selection of beers (including NA's) and appetizers. I suspect you can order a burger with any combination of options you like. The waitress provided very helpful suggestions and information.
On the other hand, my salad arrived without the salad dressing and waited a little longer for our order than I would expect for a burger place. To be fair though, the place was very crowded.
The food, however, wasn't anything to write home about. We weren't asked how we wanted our burgers cooked. We didn't think about asking. The burgers arrived and we all thought ours were too well cooked and too dry.
I ordered "the Miesville." I thought it was supposed to have mushrooms and onions (along with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and mayo). If it had any mushrooms, they were hard to find. It seemed to have a few sauteed onions.
Given that Kings Place Bar is about an hour drive for us, I'm not sure I would go out of my way to visit again. However, if I was close by, I would definitely give it another try in the hopes that our first visit was just a...
Read moreKing's Place is unbelievably good. This small, and unassuming little bar is on the side of the road and sandwiched between corn fields and a local winery. I drove 50 minutes from Rochester, MN and the views along Highway 20 were absolutely stunning. I never thought fields of endless corn rows could take my breath away, but I was so very wrong.
Immediately upon arrival, it was apparent that the service was exemplary. Every member of the staff that I had the pleasure of interacting with was kind and helpful in every way possible. We sat at the bar and were immediately served with zero wait time. The bartender was friendly and outgoing, and never left our glasses empty.
The selection of burgers on the menu is simply overwhelming, and the best advice that was given to us was "just pick the first one that looks good and then stop searching" -- otherwise you'll just have too many "good choices" in your head to remember.
The burgers were beyond delicious, and the seasoned waffle fries were crispy and flavorful. It was the perfect meal, and the most mind-blowing part was how cheap everything was. The burgers were all around $5, and I would have gladly paid double that for the quality of the meal.
I will gladly make the 50 minute drive from Rochester on a daily basis to continue to eat at this incredible place.
TL;DR: Bravo. 10/10....
