I have never been to Shirley's and will NEVER go back. We were meeting there @ 11:30 with quite a few others for lunch before the Trump parade to Union City. A small diner it is and with covid they removed half of the tables so we had to wait which is quite understandable. She gave us a menu to speed up the ordering process, in the meantime, I asked the waitress if I could go speak to my friend while we waited. She said sure. She came immediately over and said her boss said we can't be in the restaurant, fine I guess we were in the way, again understandable. We proceeded to stand in the hall and look at the menu. I popped my head in and asked the very nice waitress if we could make a to go order, she said she would be right out. Within 2 minutes she came out and said her boss told her we couldn't order to go because they were too busy. There were people waiting in line behind us to be seated. An order is an order. We had a 2 hour window to be served and be ready to go. The waitress was wonderful. I feel bad that she has to work under such circumstances and you could see in her expression she knew it was wrong. They have definitely lost my business and everyone I talk to will be told about this.....not the way to do business. EVER!!! Yes we did eat but not there, ordered from somewhere else while still in the parking lot. I have to admit the food we ordered and picked up was much better than we would have...
Read moreI am vegan so I figured they wouldn’t have much for me to eat which was totally fine but my partner and I went here for breakfast because he wanted to try it out. I ordered dry toast and hash browns and when they brought the food out they had put my partner’s sausage on my plate and it was touching my toast (I have never eaten meat so I was uncomfortable with direct cross contamination like that) so I asked nicely if I could have another piece of toast and explained why. She gave me a weird look and took it back without saying anything. When she brought it back out another women came over with her to put the toast and hash browns in front of me and the other women said loudly so other customers could hear: “you know, kids are starving in other countries, just wanted to say that.” I wasn’t trying to waste food or be rude, I was just asking for a slight accommodation, which I wouldn’t think would be incredibly hard from a restaurant but apparently that was too much to ask. It was really embarrassing and hurtful considering my intention wasn’t to upset anyone...
Read moreStopped in for a quick breakfast while traveling. First, the place is kind of “homey” which is nice. The booths are tiny with little room for your legs ( my husband and I aren’t huge people). The food was pretty good. Especially the cinnamon French toast. But, they super skimped on the regular toast and bacon. Both were paper thin. And they charge .99 for the toast when it should be part of the meal. The side order of bacon 2.39 and it was two very skimpy pieces. I had asked for half hot chocolate and half coffee ( I do this a lot) the waitress informed me that I would be charged for both beverages. I have never had a restaurant charge for both. My husband was charged another dollar for a “to go” drink that was delivered in a size small coffee cup. (I mean REALLY). Talk about extra charges for everything. To top it off the waitress was not very pleasant and barely smiled.
On the upside the food was hot and tasty. The bill was reasonable, and the wait...
