Was on the east side of the great state of Michigan for the first time in my life with my wife for a wedding, absolutely beautiful. Lake Huron, whoa. Found some reviews and Hammer & Nail had great ones. We arrived about an hour before they closed on a Friday night which I don’t really like to do as I’ve worked many kitchens in my life but we were starving. Tiny, cozy clean full Up North vibes. Place was packed, lots of hunters and locals it seemed. Incredibly warm staff greeted us and got us a seat straight away. The menu was one page sweet and short (always a good sign that the kitchen is not trying to over extend themselves). Wifey was hankering for a burger that we saw on reviews. Not tonight babes, it’s Friday duh… (says the Irish that was once told by his Grandpa in church “hmm that’s strange, how come you are not fire?” So Wifey got the Chicken Quesadilla and I got the Cod (Grandpa winked at me from above). I didn’t expect much from the quesadilla as I spent time working in a Taquería but this quesadilla was completely satisfying. Extremely delicious, I was kinda tripping about how simple and good it was. Now the Cod… whomever is managing that kitchen knows what they are doing. To fry a piece of fish and keep it light and tender is a skill that chefs around the world spend decades honing. I’ve been around the world a few times and It was possibly one of the best I’ve ever had. I know I had some coleslaw (that was equally great) I don’t remember chips but I do remember how light and subtle that cod flaked off. I know that cod was frozen at some point but there was so much care put into the batter and timing the fry just right. I kinda wanted to shake the chefs hand. It was made with care and attention by a person that knew what they were doing. I’ve had many chippy in my life but this is forever stuck in my brain. We both had cokes (I don’t think they have booze but there is a bar next door). Service was on point, we got checked on but not to an annoying point which I know is hard in such a small space. We got dessert and wife made the wise choice of the banana bread which I think the owner came over and expressed how she was bummed my wife got the last piece. It was really good. Mine was some ridiculous chocolate thing that was obviously not made there but hit that sugar high. All being all if you are on that side of the state I implore you to check out this spot. An...
Read moreI cannot tell you how excited I was to hear this place opened in Barton City. Having the gas station and BC bar was always a huge plus to have, but having a place to get breakfast, even better. When you're in the middle of nowhere, the phrase is always "beggars can't be choosers", and usually that refers to the convenience and quality of the topic, well let me tell you, they NAILED it. I can't tell you one thing that I wasn't blown away with when we just went here for the first time. The inside is gorgeous and definitely kept clean, and the service was well above the standard of any Leo's, Bob Evans, or small town diner I've ever been to, but what's really worth the time to write this review, was the food. I chose the Ham Slam because it was the meal with the most, as you can see. I really wanted to sample as many things as I could to really see what this place was made of, "per-fec-tion" is what I got apparently, go see for yourself. I'm so won over by this place it's unreal. So glad to see Barton City getting shown a little more love, definitely gotta give a shout out to these two and the staff who helps make the whole thing happen, it's going to be a great year. Thank you for an amazing morning, and like we said, we'll...
Read moreDon’t judge a book by its cover! When we first pulled up, their excellent reviews brought us to the door. I was not impressed from the outside, but you can see how much attention to detail and energy they have put into completely redoing the interior from the second you step foot inside! Everything looks brand new, well decorated, and carefully chosen, not to mention very clean. The tables were beautiful and even the dishes!
Service was fast and accurate, and my husband’s skillet meal was absolutely delicious. I was not a fan of the biscuits and gravy (way too much pepper and the biscuits were a little tough) but they weren’t bad tasting, just not made to my liking. We both loved the bang bang shrimp appetizer!
I also appreciated the cleanliness of the bathroom and that the portions were...
