First impressions walking into this place was interesting. It was empty at 5:30. It had the feel of an old VFW with a bar that looks out of place, booths that are probably original to the building, and leather couches with darts and pool at the back. Maybe it's something that the locals enjoy but it really made for a strange "restaurant" atmosphere. The older server who "greeted" us at the door and sat us wasn't the warmest. Our server for the night was nice but not very attentive. Our apps (bread and humms platter) took 20+ minutes to come out and then our entrees came out 30 minutes AFTER the apps arrived. We weren't pressed for time and we were just enjoying our drinks and good company around the table so it wasn't a big deal for us (but might be for someone else.) We're pretty low maintenance and easy going types of folks. My father in laws blackened fish was very salty and we kindly let our server know about it. No manager or any type of compensation was given besides a measly "I'm sorry" from our server. I've worked in the restaurant industry, especially in resort towns, for years and this kind of service is quite the bummer. It seems other customers have had better experiences so I'm sure this place is great for some but I don't think we'll be returning for a visit. I give it 2 stars because the rest of our tables...
Read moreWent to Johnny's Torch Riviera for Mother's Day. Ordered a Tenderloin (Medium) with Mushroom Risotto and Asparagus for approximately $32-37, while my grandmother ordered a Chicken Parmesan for approximately $22-24.
Was not very happy with my dish. The Tenderloin was Well Done, and was the size of a TV dinner Salisbury Steak. Sent it back for a new one, the second Tenderloin was once again served to me Well Done.
The Mushroom Risotto and Asparagus was not very appealing either. Just one ice cream scoops worth of Risotto plopped on my plate and a couple wilted Asparagus spears that wasn't even seasoned (even parmesan honestly would of hyped me up). Sent it back once again and asked to remove it from my bill (which the server was more then kind and happy enough to do).
Not worth $32-37. But can confirm the Chicken Parmesan was worth the $22. Grandma couldn't finish it, so I helped her out and we both were satisfied. The staff was very friendly! But our server messed up on the bill. But once again the server was more then kind and happy enough to fix that for us!
The staff and servers are awesome! I would not recommend ordering the Tenderloin. Not worth the expensive price for the...
Read moreJohnny's in Torch Lake is a hidden gem that truly captures the essence of an up-north bar. From the moment I walked in, I was enveloped by a warm, welcoming atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The friendly locals were incredibly inviting, making it easy to strike up conversations and feel like part of the community.
While parking was a bit tricky, it was a small price to pay for such a fantastic experience. The highlight of our visit was when a kind lady, as she was leaving, generously bought my fiancée and me a shot—what a thoughtful gesture that added to the friendly vibe!
Jason, the chef running the kitchen, took the time to come out and greet us, which really personalized our visit. It's not often you see such dedication to customer service. The food was exceptional, with a menu that truly highlights local flavors. If you're looking for a place that combines great food, friendly faces, and an authentic atmosphere, Johnny's is the place to be. I can't recommend it enough, and I can’t wait...
