The weather was finally perfect for having lunch outside. Cooler temps, no humidity, and no rain. The deck is a very nice space which they have zero plant life on. This means no insects while trying to eat. After a few more tables filled with the scents of food, we did start seeing some bees. But we were outside, and that's where they live. And they weren't bothersome. Just investigated then flew off.
Our server was lovely. She made sure what she wrote down was accurate as my three friends were all interjecting additions and changes as they heard other people's orders. She had a lot of patience and kept a smile on her face.
I'm giving them 5 stars on the food because what I had was just wonderful - the Steak Wrap with Sour Cream and Chive Fries. The wrap was just packed with meat. They chop the meat tiny (almost a micro shred) making it incredibly easy to eat. The flavor balance was delicious. The fries were very tasty. They had a light seasoning and came with their own dipping sauce. YUM. I finished all my fries and took half the wrap home. I will say having the leftovers cold was just as good as having it warm the first time. One of my friends had the Reuben with Potato Pancakes, one had the Perch Platter, and one had the Poor Man's Lobster. They all said the food was good, unfortunately they use canned corn as a vegetable side. That signature grey color from canned veggies is not appetizing to me at all, but then it wasn't part of MY meal, so no issue for me. The bread that came with the fish dinners was rated as excellent. The slices were very large and soft.

Read moreCoach’s Big Boy Burger: There has never been a Big Boy restaurant in my area within my lifetime, so I’ve never eaten an actual Big Boy Burger. The burger seems incredibly similar if not the same as one of my childhood staples, McDonald’s Big Mac. I realize that may be blasphemy to some, so forgive me. Coach’s Pub ‘N’ Grill is a sports bar located on the south side of Milwaukee. I could not find much on their history, but it looks like they opened in 1999. Their version of the Big Boy Burger includes two beef patties, lettuce, cheese, and Big Boy sauce on a seeded bun. It tasted the way I remember Big Macs tasting as a kid, which is great. Coach’s take on the sandwich is a definite upgrade as unlike the Big Mac it contains two slices of cheese instead of one, there was much more sauce, better tasting bun, and juicier patties. A McDonald's Big Mac suffers from a poor ratio of bun to meat (too bready, patties too thin), but Coach's ratio was spot on. Next time I'm craving a Big Mac I'll for sure head to Coach's instead. Doughboy approved *My only criticisms are minor and have nothing to do with the food. First, there is online ordering available but only by using the Toast app. The Toast app was not working properly when I tried using it, which was frustrating. Second, when I went to pick up my sandwich there was no clear pick up area. It would be nice if signage or more obvious signage was posted inside. Read moreA great place for a classic Milwaukee fish fry. It is indeed a pub and grill, so expect televisions tuned to sports, a lot of people at peak hours, and a festive and noisy atmosphere. We started with a whisky old-fashioned--it was well-made and generously rationed. There are various fish fry options on Friday night: we both went with the fisherman's platter--perch, bluegill, cod, and shrimp with potato, cole slaw, other sides, and soup or salad to start. The standard clam chowder was fine but not very interesting, but the cajun chowder (probably the clam chowder with cajun spices) was very flavorful and a better option. The fish was delicious--the breading is light--almost like tempura. For the starch, we opted for the potato pancakes: we both enjoyed it, though dining companion thought his were a tad salty in places. Cole slaw is usually never very interesting, but this version was very tasty and really provided a good foil to the fish and potatoes. Lemon, cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and applesauce were all served with the platter, and a basket of Saltine-style crackers and flavored breadsticks rounded out the offerings. We were warmly greeted when we entered, and the service was fantastic--really attentive without being intrusive. Though not an elegant setting or gourmet food by any means, this dinner was a solid win in the fish fry category, and so much the better that it really has a nice, neighborhood feel to it. We'll be...
