The food has really gone downhill in the last 6 months. We were in yesterday and ordered burgers and fries. The cheese on one of the burgers looked like it came right out of the refrigerator - not even warm. The french fries and onion rings looked like they have been cooked half a dozen times before being served. The onion rings in particular looked almost BLACK. The french fries were crunchy - not crispy, CRUNCHY, and dry inside. Normally with french fries you get a slightly crunchy exterior and a light and fluffy interior. I honestly thought that these had been cooked a couple of times beforehand, hadn't been eaten, and had been reheated in oil and served. They were so bad that I told the waitress and she asked the kitchen to cook another batch. When she came back, I could immediately tell that the fries were cooked the same way. It's like they had a bunch of fries that had been cooked twice in advance (not the normal twice cooked fries where you lightly fry them the first time and then finish cooking them when ordered - I mean fully cooked at least twice, in earnest) and then cooked yet again to near burnt when ordered. The waitress should not have brought either batch to the table. I felt insulted that she brought not only one unacceptable batch, but two unacceptable batches to the table, expecting me to eat EITHER of them. The server is the last line of defense against poor quality food . If I had had my way, I would have stiffed the waitress and told her exactly why I was stiffing her, but I was overruled. The argument was that the waitress was not responsible for how the food was cooked. My response was that she is absolutely responsible, because she's the one that brought it out to the table, and it was clearly, CLEARLY overcooked.
It used to be that you could go there and get fresh hot french fries, but the last two times I've been there they have been very poor. I don't know what's going on, but I hope you guys...
Read moreIt's a tiny drive from the heart of Detroit lakes I reviewed many spots to eat and this one had good reviews so we came here. It was 6yr old and I. We got sat immediately I asked the waitress a bunch questions so that I would get the perfect burger. It was a toss up between the mush n Swiss or the California burger oooohhhh they are both equally my favorite. I asked the waitress with a year of experience what one was better she said the California but the mush n Swiss was also good. I chose that one the mushroom n Swiss after all the rave about these burgers I was disappointed when it came out with canned mushrooms warmed up not sautéed. If this information was available on menu or letting people know that the mushrooms are canned and not sauted. I would gotten the Cali burger. The canned mushroom n Swiss was ok. I also ordered my burger to medium and it came Grey or well done. But it's was still edible so that's good but they do have wonderful jalp poppers and fries. Nice clean place nice...
Read moreWe stopped by to eat after Church with the kids. We had not eaten here for decades. We discovered what we have been missing out on for all this time. We had a fish sandwich basket and mushroom and Swiss w/bacon burger basket. It was incredible to say the least! Ever eat something super slow cause you wanted it to last? That was me! As my photos show, they have a nice decor with some fun comedy mixed in at the door. There are large windows for viewing the lake while eating. We were waited on by Emma, who was very pleasant and was checking with us often. This is definitely a place we will be returning to! Thanks...
