This place is fantastic. The food is seasoned well and tasty. 95% of the staff are friendly, and you are made to feel welcomed. Depending on who is behind the cash register will determine if you will receive a greeting or not. I advise you to get the rib tip basket. They are so tender.
Pros: Great food, nice quantity, great variety.
Cons: Never enough food prepared to handle the volume of costumers when they open. I've been there when they unlock the door at 11:30, and after serving 3 customers, you telling everyone is a 30 min- to an hour wait on rib tips and ribs. Also, the BBQ sauce is too sweet. Sylvester needs to go back to the drawing board on his BBQ sauce. Doesn't taste that good.
Prices: The food is a bit pricey, but you have to understand that food costs have gone up tremendously.
Advice: #1 - They should cook enough food to have ready when they open. Customers should have to wait on food after you have been open only 15 minutes.
#2 - Be there when they open the door. I go at 11:00 am and now I'm usually the 2nd person in line. If you go early, you have a better chance of getting your food and not have to wait over an hour for more to come off the smoker.
#3 - Call in your order ahead of time. When you call in your order, you can skip the line when you arrive at the restaurant. You go straight to the front and pay for your order and get your food.
Overall, it's a great restaurant, and I go back every chance I get. I just have to go early to be at the head...
Read moreSylvesters is in my honest opinion one of the top three bbq restaurants in the greater Jackson, Ms area. Hands down no real competition besides the other two who i will refrain from mentioning because this inquiry is about Sylvesters. For those interested in knowing or who are curious of the other two one is on bailey avenue and begins with an e the other is a big chain bbq restaurant that left Jackson went to brandon and starts with an s. But anyway I digress. Sylvesters food is wonderfully done. Their variety is pretty good though in some places they could stand some expansion. Their sauce is out of this world. And their homemade lemonade and also sweet tea are great. They are generally pretty quick service wise despite generally almost always having long lines due to demand. Customer service is great also. If i had any complaints it would only be that they moved to to outskirts of the city and as with many other places prices have crept up over the years. Though if nothing else you should plan yourself a treat day because the taste is...
Read moreAlthough I stopped here twice I never ended up getting what I ordered. While placing an order during two separate occasions I ordered the half chicken among other items. On both occasions I was provided chicken wings instead because the half chickens weren't available or I would have to wait in order to get them.
The first time I went I ended up waiting 45 minutes and during my second visit I ended up waiting an hour and a half. During my second visit I noticed individuals who had just walked in were provided a half chicken. These were individuals who did not place an order for pickup. They just walked in, ordered, and walked away with a half chicken.
When it came time for me to check out I was informed that they were grilling more half chickens and that they could not accommodate my order, but they were willing to provide extra chicken wings. Being upset that this was the second time that this had happened I decided to leave and take the wings. I would recommend ordering over the phone if you can. Everything was very good, expensive,...
