TL;DR they must be very understaffed because the service was mediocre and the food abysmally overcooked. At $15 a meal ($60.18 for four people) and an hour wait, if it's crowded you need to go somewhere else for good food.
Service: We came for all you can eat fish Friday (catfish). We got our drink order in at 7 and had our food by 8:05 (yeah, an hour later with no check-in or explanation). When we finally got our food, there was a simple "here you go and here's the check".
Food: With a double order of french fries, I got about as much as you'd get in a small fry at any fast food restaurant. Tastes a bit like they cook it in the same oil as the fish and hush puppies (which I personally love). Unfortunately the flavor of burnt food seems to have soaked in a bit. The two hush puppies are about the size of quarters. The fish was grossly overcooked. I'm not good at frying fish and tend to overcook my own catfish or crappie and yet I've never overcooked any this badly. Much of the flavor that was probably in the breading was cooked to nothing. They looked overcooked so after trying the fish I left them where they were (they might be amazing).
The fish seems to be brought out in a one basket per table (at least it was for our table of 4. Theirs a good number of pieces, but they aren't whole filets (half's maybe fourths depending on size of the fish).
Sanitation and COVID protocols: Bathrooms looked pretty clean. Well stocked with soap and paper towels. The text on Google says they are required to sanitize surfaces between customers, but the table next was not sanitized between customers (as far as I could tell), and our own table had leftover crumbs on it when I sat down.
No masks required, your seated a good 2 feet from those around you. So, just try to not visit if you have been exposed for others sake. Very crowded tonight.
Decor: Pretty decent look. It's a rustic style you probably expect from this sort of restaurant.
Not one of our four liked their food or service. We've each had good experiences at their previous location so it's probably a staffing related issue which is concerning because our server's name...
Read moreMy first time eating here after hearing everyone talk about how good it is. We got there about 4:15-4:30 on a Friday afternoon and there were a lot of people already there. Got seated quickly and got out food and drinks quickly. Our waiter had a huge section she was covering so we were only able to catch her once to get a refill on our drinks. I was disappointed with the fish. It had a strong taste to it in my opinion. The hush puppies and fries were all I ate besides part of a piece of fish. The creamy slaw was not good at all. When we left they were lined up out the door so I guess a lot of people like it. There is another place close by that serves fish that is much better in my opinion. I will give them another try but I will eat something besides the...
Read moreSaw a billboard advertising pie and stopped by on a whim on a Friday night on a road trip. Walking in the door we were greeted by a couple tables covered in pie wedges and the smell of fried fish which seemed to be the main attraction for most of the diners. The place was full of locals. It’s wasn’t a pretentious restaurant - painted plywood on the walls and concrete floors. But service was good, friendly, and I couldn’t not believe the prices. I had strawberry rhubarb pie and they heated it and served it with vanilla ice cream. It’s a good thing I don’t live locally or I’d probably be back weekly. Definitely worth the 3/4 or so detour off the highway. I will be back on another road trip...
