NOT ALLERGY FRIENDLY ⭐️⭐️ Rating: 2/5 Stars
For Diners: Those with food allergies should exercise extreme caution or consider dining elsewhere until proper protocols are established. See full review.
The Quarry boasts a stunning waterfront location on Lake Monroe with an updated, attractive interior that immediately catches your eye. The scenic setting and recent renovations create high expectations for what should be a memorable dining experience. Unfortunately, these expectations were not met due to serious operational shortcomings.
The most concerning aspect of our visit was the restaurant's complete lack of allergen awareness and protocols. As someone with an egg allergy, I encountered a frustrating and potentially dangerous situation that revealed systemic problems with staff training and kitchen procedures.
The Issues: No allergen information sheet available Servers had zero training on cross-contamination protocols Kitchen staff appeared unfamiliar with ingredient checking procedures Management showed no knowledge of how to handle allergen requests No clear system for communicating dietary restrictions to the kitchen
What should have been a straightforward accommodation turned into a 30-minute ordeal of back-and-forth discussions, with staff clearly uncomfortable and uncertain about how to proceed. Despite our extensive conversation, my Asian rice bowl arrived with spicy mayo (which contains egg) - indicating either the allergen information never reached the kitchen or the kitchen failed to check ingredients properly.
Rather than remaking the dish correctly, the kitchen's solution was to remove all dressings and sauces, leaving me with a completely bland, bare-bones rice bowl. This approach demonstrated continued uncertainty about ingredient safety rather than confidence in their ability to prepare allergen-free food.
While the rest of my family enjoyed their meals, I was left eating flavorless food quickly so we could leave together - hardly the relaxing dining experience one expects at a waterfront restaurant.
The one bright spot was our server, who deserves recognition for being genuinely willing to help and learn despite clearly receiving no training for these situations. Their effort and attitude were commendable and prevented this from being a one-star review. However, individual staff goodwill cannot compensate for systemic management failures.
Beyond the allergen issues, basic maintenance problems detracted from the experience: Wobbly toilets in the restrooms Unstable benches at seating areas General lack of attention to facility upkeep
These maintenance issues, combined with the serious food safety concerns, suggest management priorities may not align with providing a quality guest experience.
The Quarry has all the elements for success - a beautiful lakefront location, attractive updated interior, and willing staff. However, the complete absence of allergen protocols represents both a customer service failure and a potential health hazard. For a restaurant in today's dining landscape to lack basic allergen awareness and training is unacceptable.
For Management: Immediate staff training on allergen handling, development of ingredient lists and protocols, and attention to basic facility maintenance would dramatically improve the guest experience.
For Diners: Those with food allergies should exercise extreme caution or consider dining elsewhere until proper protocols are established.
The scenic setting cannot overcome operational failures that leave guests feeling unwelcome and potentially unsafe. With proper management attention, The Quarry could easily become the destination restaurant its location...
Read moreMy daughter and I wanted to try something new, and decided to try the Quarry. We ordered a smorgasbord of things to try, and overall was not super impressed. Although my daughter LOVED the nachos (hence the 4 ⭐️s) The food was pretty expensive in my opinion for the quality and flavor level. Along with that the atmosphere (during the winter) is not the most inviting, but I’m sure this could be fixed with warmer weather and being able to sit outside and watch the water. One staff member was a little cold, while the other was super warm and inviting even offering to help carry our food to the car.
Quessabirria tacos: the tacos were well made, with a generous amount of beef. However, the consume had absolutely no flavor. I quote my daughter with saying “are we just dipping these into oil!?” Even if the consume has any flavor there wasn’t more than 1/4 cup given to us to dip all tacos in… I would not order again @ $12.95 for three
Brisket nachos: I did not try these but my daughter said they were a 10/10 and would give the place 5 ⭐️s just for these @ $13.95 for the order, not badly prices considering she’ll be eating these for a couple of days
Naan flatbread with chicken: my daughter and I both were indifferent about this. Honestly it could do without the chicken as the chicken just kind of makes it clunky, and this take on a Caprese salad honestly just doesn’t need the protein. The cheese spread is also very mushy, the whole things would benefit from some crunch and needs a tinge more balsamic glaze in my opinion. @ $11.95 probably won’t order again.
Birria ramen: this is GOOOODDD and, other than the nachos, was probably my daughters favorite. Tastes like a meaty beef and barley soup with some ramen noods in it. Honestly so good! Butttt being $14.95, I’m not gonna get it again.
French fries: nothing special to them, a little soggy due to the drive home. @ $ 2.95 you get a decent amount for the price
Garlic butter Brussels sprouts: not sure where the garlic was in these… nothing to write home about, they just taste like oven baked brussies 🤷🏻♀️. @ $3.95 I would get again just for some quick veg…....
Read moreWent for the first time tonight for dinner. We were seated and the vibe was good. Bright walls and light woods make it inviting although the space seems cramped. We were seated and waited for the waitress. She brought waters and we ordered cocktails. My husband ordered a mango drink ($12) and I ordered the fish bowl ($15). We needed a few minutes to look over the menu. When the drinks arrived about 10-12 min late we ordered food. My husband took 2 sips of his drink and noticed it was thick like there was mango puree instead of liquor in the drink ( puree is not listed on the drink description) and I was bummed my drink didn't come in the fish bowl as advertised ( figured that's why it was $15 🤷). I had hope that it would taste good but my drink was warm and definitely not delicious. We then sat hoping our waitress would come check on us after dropping drink to make sure we were good. But no we sat for 25 min. No check in, no water refill ( and that's what we were now left to drink since the drinks were terrible), and no food. We watched our waitress walk back and forth several times, and it was like she forgot us. Finally after waiting 30 min with no check in from the waitress and no food we decided to leave. We passed our waitress on the way out and she walked right passed. We stopped at the host stand to inform and they were apologetic. We were then chased down by our waitress in the parking lot and we told her the same thing we told the hostess. To be clear: We each took 2 sips off of our drinks The bartender was not busy and the waitress checked on every other table she had but ours We left before receiving our food as we had no hope that it would be worth the money we would spend on it as it likely was dieing in the window A quick check in could have avoided all this as my husband and myself would have sent back the drinks and ordered something else, and would have likely received a refill on our water. For a first time this was a bummer as we are always trying to find new spots to eat that have...
