We are from the Harrisburg area & have driven by this place a few time to go to & from Williamsport. Today my son (20) & I had the opportunity to finally stop in check it out. We were looking forward to it especially the way it looks from the outside. As you walk in you see their big menu. Nice, but as you look closer, the prices are a lot higher than what we expected from from any BBQ place that we're used to. Since it wasn't too busy we decided to give it a shot. It took a bit to select but we went to counter to order & was greeted with a typical what can get you type of greeting. For the most part, the cashier helped us get our order situated; however, didn't mention that I could substitute slaw for another side (kinda on me to ask but forgot when ordering).
We got our numbered table stick & sat ourselves down beside the big windows. Would probably be a fantastic view of the river if it wasn't dark.
Looking around there the tables, servers, a lot of the ombiance & the sprint canoes attached to the ceiling, maked me feel as though this isn't jst a BBQ place but a litter higher scale restaurant w/ servers (prob why the price was a bit higher than we were used to). Not exactly sure, but based on our experience the servers seem to bring out food & clean up plates. Although, we were at the table for about 30 min a waitress did stop by once to ask if she could take our plates. No other attempt to check on us was attempted (although a few more people were showing up after us).
Men's bathroom is nice but small & a little tight to meander if more than 2 are in there; especially the sink area. Clean though!
It didn't take long for the food to come out. I snapped a couple pics & dug in. My son liked (however, not even close to favorite) his shrimp, fries & his ribs but mine seemed to have tid bits of bones in it as I bit down on my ribs; but fortunatly I did not hurt any of teeth. It was alright, but personally, I like my ribs almost falling off the bone & not rely on their BBQ sauce to make it taste good. The 1/4 chicken was jst chicken (nothing special), beans almost had a canned taste to it & brisket wasn't what I was hoping for. A bit dryer than my liking.
In short, food wasn't exactly what we were hoping for & we spent over $52 on jst the 2 of us, with military discount... at a BBQ joint. Although exterier, menu, & probably view were great, overall not...
Read moreHad trouble giving Skeeters 5 stars, but the atmosphere and staff made up for it. Everything is well placed from the menu, how to order and seating. They have an excellent outdoor seating area that you should try, overlooking the river.
The menu had a twist I never saw before and loved the idea! Which ever meat you choose, you could have it one of three ways: on greens, in a wrap or sandwich or as a platter! Loved this.
Food: I had the pick two and choose shredded pork and 1/4 ribs. This came with corn bread, coleslaw and beans. The good: omg the ribs meat fell off the bone! Moist, tender and tasted very good! The shredded pork was piled high on a Texas toast type bread and there was enough that I had to take some home. It too, melted in my mouth and tasted great. The coleslaw was served in a small cup and I could have gone for more. I love coleslaw and I would rate this the second best one I have ever had. It was not creamy, it was not sweet, it was not sour but had such a great taste. My #1 coleslaw is KFC. Hands down. The bad: the beans. No flavor white beans on no sauce at all. I think to improve this they should smoke the beans to give it some type of flavor. Literally, could not get any Smokey or bbq flavor from the beans making it seem it came out of huge retail jar.
The bad, that almost brought down the one star: the brisket. Yeah I usually judge a place entirely by their brisket. My dining partner got a brisket wrap and on the first bite I knew something was wrong! The brisket was so bland and tough that I could not sink my teeth through it! My dining partner had to take their wrap apart, pull out the hard brisket and roll it back up and only eat the veggies in it. Yes, it was that bad!
I encouraged them to let staff know but my friend did not want to delay the group.
Food was served VERY FAST though! The fastest out of any BBQ food place has served me which makes me wonder if the brisket was left out awhile?
Bathrooms were very clean. The staff was extremely friendly and came by multiple times. We stepped outside and the patio is gorgeous!
I am one of the top 10% Google food reviewers on Google. I know, and love BBQ and seafood and you can see how I rate on my previous reviews!
Would I dine here again? You bet, I would give their brisket another try, hopefully getting a...
Read moreSuper disappointed in the service we received yesterday, Sunday Dec. 22, 2024. We ordered one pound of pulled chicken and two pounds of pulled pork, to go, as we planned on serving this to family visiting for the holiday.
Once we got home and took the items out of the bag, we immediately noticed that the pulled pork was in a larger container, but appeared to be barely filled half way, and side by side with the pulled chicken, it absolutely did not look like double. So we got out our scale and weighed them: the pulled chicken weighed 15oz. One ounce shy of the pound we paid for, but no big deal. the pulled pork however only weighed 19oz. that is 13 ounces short of what we paid for... literally ridiculous!
So we called in to Skeeters at 2:18pm and spoke to a 'manager' (and I use that word lightly, because no manager I've ever dealt with in my life spoke the way this person did) This 'manager' argued with us saying that he knows absolutely, 100% for sure that he specifically watched them weigh our order and he knows for a fact that our pulled pork weighed 2lbs. When we told him we weighed it ourselves, didn't even open the lid, just put it right on the scale, and it was just barely over 1lb, he was very short and rude to us and wouldn't even listen to what we were saying.
As someone who has worked in customer service, and specifically in restaurants, for many years, the way we were treated was absolutely horrible and completely unacceptable. We were very polite on the phone and we only either wanted the pound of pulled pork that we paid for - but didn't get- refunded to our card, OR that we could drive back out to Skeeters and pick up the pound of pulled pork that we were missing. This 'manager' did nothing for us and insulted us.
Unfortunately, we will never return to Skeeters and are very saddened by the way we were treated. Not to mention that once we did open containers to eat, the pulled chicken was dry and had no flavor and no sauce on it whatsoever..
I have pictures of the chicken and pulled pork on the scale to show the weights... and also a pic of the 5 minute call to Skeeters at 2:18pm on 12/22/24 to speak with...
