Our family had been looking forward to the Tract-Or-Treat event all week. After spending over an hour getting my excited daughters into their costumes, we made the 45-minute drive, anticipating a fun-filled fall afternoon. Instead, our visit quickly turned into a lesson in disappointment.
Upon arrival, we were abruptly turned away at the gate, along with numerous other families. The reason? We had not pre-registered online for this free event. This critical requirement was not made obvious in the promotions, leaving a wake of tearful children and frustrated parents who had traveled from all over.
The staff explained they were concerned about running out of candy. In a genuine effort to solve their stated problem and salvage the day for my girls, I drove to a nearby store, purchased two large bags of candy, and returned, hoping to contribute. Shockingly, we were refused entry a second time.
Most baffling, however, was what happened next. I asked if we could forgo the trick-or-treating entirely and simply enter the farm as regular patrons. I explained that we just wanted to enjoy the live music, take a few family photos, and purchase some of the farm's fall goodies. Even with the crowd appearing sparse, the answer was a firm and final "no."
The invitation to come back next weekend felt hollow, completely disregarding the time, effort, and fuel we had already invested. We weren't there for a free handout; we were there to create a memory and support a local business.
An event's success shouldn't hinge on a rigid technicality. The complete lack of flexibility, empathy, and on-the-spot problem-solving from the staff was profoundly disappointing. What should have been a joyful autumn tradition became a frustrating 90-minute round trip that ended with two very sad children. We will not be returning.
RESPONSE TO OWNER: Thank you for your response. To be clear, my review is not intended to be malicious, but to provide honest feedback on a deeply negative customer experience. A business's reputation is built on how it treats its patrons, particularly when things don't go as planned. While I understand the ticketing information was on your direct channels, my family discovered the event through a third-party local events website where this requirement was not mentioned. The fact that your staff told me they had been turning families away "all day" suggests this was a widespread communication issue, not an isolated case of a customer disregarding information.
My primary disappointment, and the reason for the one-star rating, stems from the staff's complete lack of empathy and flexibility in handling the situation. When your staff cited a candy shortage as the reason for turning us away, I offered a solution by leaving to purchase candy myself. When that was rejected, I offered another solution: for my family to enter as regular paying customers, forgoing the limited candy entirely. We simply wanted to enjoy the farm and spend money on your products. Both reasonable offers were flatly refused.
Looking at your promotional materials now, it seems this very issue of turning unticketed people away was foreseen. A proactive solution for the inevitable misinformed guests—such as allowing on-site ticket sales or an option for general admission—would have been a sign of good customer service. Instead, the rigid approach guaranteed a loss of revenue for your farm and created a frustrating experience for many families.
Supporting a local business is a two-way street. We came ready to create a happy memory and spend money. We left with neither, due to a series of...

I booked the Santa wagon experience weeks ago for my 18 month old and my family. We pulled into the parking lot a few minutes late. We were walking around trying to find out where to go for the wagon ride. No signs, no indication of where to go. We happened to see another family ahead of us and followed them to what appeared to be the check in. The lady that helped me informed me that since we were almost 10 minutes late at that point that we were unable to go on the wagon ride but we were welcome to go walk to see Santa. I asked her if she could have some compassion for families with little kids and to have some grace, perhaps have a little “Christmas spirit.” Nope. Not even a 1 minute grace period here. Worse than a doctor’s office. The lady’s response was “well, we were here”. Mind you, there was no fine print or any kind of language in the terms and conditions that implicitly or explicitly stated that if I was 1 minute late that the wagon ride would be forfeited. NOR was there any sort of language in the confirmation email. It’s not like there was a line of people waiting to get on the wagon. In fact, there was only ONE other family waiting and they still absolutely refused to allow us to ride on the wagon, not even for just myself and my son who loves tractors. What loss would they have incurred by allowing my son to ride on the tractor? Instead, they took my $40 with a smile on their face. I hope they feel good about this.
They also refused to give me a refund for a service I NEVER received. Needless to say, I will never be back again or give this place any additional business. As a small business owner myself, I couldn’t imagine treating any customer the way we were treated. I will be sure to tell everyone I know not to come here. 0/10 DO...
Read moreMe & my husband chose The Union Exchange as our wedding venue and we couldn't have picked a better one! The staff are SO lovely (massive shoutout to Kelly & Kacie!) and they were so flexible with us and really put in the extra effort to make sure our day was perfect. Not only are the staff here excellent at their jobs, they are also such wonderful kindhearted people too. We felt INSTANTLY welcomed the first time we ever visited & that is ultimately what lead us to choosing this place to get married.
My family stayed in the big AirBNB at the front of the venue and it's such a great space for larger parties! Very modern but with a rustic twist and has everything you need. Also the animals are ADORABLE!
Myself and my husband stayed in one of the little cabins near the lake and we both loved it so much that we will be coming back every year to celebrate our anniversary! They are so cosy but very clean, we loved sitting on the chairs at the front and watching all the geese go by. Special shoutout to the candles here, the "Market Mornings" candle was a nice addition to our cabin and we even bought one to take home with us to remember this by.
Even though we were here for our wedding, I know they do so many cool events which are perfect for all ages, we will definitely be back in future! I cannot recommend this beautiful...
