I kept hearing about Lercy's. "You gotta go!" I was told by countless people in this area. My boss took me the first time. That was all I needed. Now it's my every Friday lunch. The diner is open Monday through Friday, 10:30 - 3 (if I recall). It's open Thursday and Friday evenings. It's closed all other evenings and weekends. Limited hours, yes. But the place is packed when it is open. The food here isn't fancy. It's "comfort food" that clogs up hearts and arteries and fills the stomach with happiness. I tried their chicken spaghetti because I was told how wonderful it is. It's good. My friend Irma from church still makes the best chicken spaghetti I've ever had. I tried the chicken fried steak. It's good. Not as good as the chicken fried chicken, which is what I always get. The piece of chicken is big, I cut it in half, save the rest for later. The crust is crunchy and falls off the chicken breast; makes it easier to sneak some to the dog, right? Sometimes the chicken isn't as moist as others, but that's okay. The mashed potatoes are sometimes a little more flavorful than others, but that's okay too, the serving size is a big scoop. There's yummy gravy to pour on it, anyway, if you have a mind to. The greens are delicious. Don't know how they're seasoned but they're perfect. The fried okra is good. Could be crispier, but that's okay. The "chocolate surprise" dessert is wonderful. It's chocolate pudding and maybe cream cheese with maybe Graham cracker crust. Whatever-it-is, I eat it first. The meat choices are fried fish, baked chicken, beef tips in gravy. Sides are also mac-n-cheese, green beans, broccoli cheese casserole, corn, fries and maybe others. Desserts are various cobbler, cake, pudding options. The menu does change depending on the day of the week as I discovered when I went on a Thursday and okra wasn't available. If you're looking for salads or diet food, this isn't the place for you. Come here for food like granny put on the table to feed her hardworking family. The atmosphere isn't fancy, either. You sit on metal chairs at long tables using paper towels to wipe your face and hands. Nobody dresses up here; wear your work clothes (workers from the many plants in this area are loyal customers), jeans and t-shirts, boots/athletic shoes or flip-flops. A bonus is the friendly staff I see every week. They always welcome me like I'm a friend and I appreciate that, a lot. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Maybe that's why I gave 5 stars...
Read moreSeriously, don't pass this place up. Drive out of your way we did. We were not disappointed. It's kinda a buffet or self-serve restaurant. Very friendly people nice atmosphere. But, let me get to the food. After all, that's why we eat out. We had to 2 meat meals, and we chose chicken fried steak, beef tips and gravy over mashed potatoes, fried okra, green beans, roll, and banana pudding, all included for 17$. We also had a slice of pecan pie that was extra. The sweet tea was great, which surprisingly isn't good at most restaurants. I don't want to oversell how good it was, but holymolly is was good. The beef tips best I ever had, including my mom's ( sorry mom), the chicken fried steak was really steak tenderized and battered by hand in a thick but not to thick batter nicely seasoned. It was easily cut with a knife and not a big plate of batter left. Everything was hot and delicious. The banana pudding was really good, but the owner gave me a free bread pudding because I told him I'm a bread pudding girl. It's not a cake type bread pudding but was fantastic. It was like a crem, Brule taste. I will go back again for sure. If I lived close, I'd eat at least...
