From some friends visit:
THIS IS A TRUE STORY. IT HAPPENED ON 11-21-2015. A GROUP OF FRIENDS WENT TO VISIT THIS VENUE.
ROCKY POINT RESTAURANT IN CARMEL, CA.
OUR GROUP WAS OUTSIDE ON THE PATIO. WHERE WE WERE ENJOYING LIFE . I SYLVANO WENT TO ORDER A COUPLE ITEMS. AN EMPLOYEE WHO IDENTIFIED HIMSELF AS ADAM TOLD ME THAT OUR GROUP HAD TO MOVE BECAUSE THEY WOULD NEED THE AREA FOR DINING. I TOLD HIM TO GO AND TELL THE GROUP HIMSELF, AND THAT OUR GROUP WOULD BE OK WITH MOVING TO ANOTHER PART OF THE RESTAURANT.
ADAM SAID HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. I SEEN OUR GROUP MOVING TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE BUILDING. I PROCEEDED TO GO WITH OUR GROUP TO AN AREA WHERE WE WERE TOLD THAT WE CAN SIT AT BY THE HOSTESS, SINCE WE WERE PURCHASING DRINKS AND CARRIED SOME DRINKS WITH US. WHEN WE GOT TO THE TABLE AND BEGAN SEATING OURSELVES, ADAM TOLD OUR GROUP THAT WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SIT AT THE TABLE .
ONE OF OUR PEOPLE IS HANDICAPPED , WHO ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY WAS USING HIS CAIN. HIS LEGS ARE PARTIALLY PARALYZED. OUR FRIEND AS WELL AS OURSELVES WERE TOLD THAT WE HAD TO WALK, INCLUDING OUR PARTIALLY PARALYZD FRIEND, DOWNSTAIRS AND IF WE DIDN'T WE ALL HAD TO LEAVE OR THE POLICE WOULD BE CALLED. WE HADN'T SAID A WORD TO PROVOKE THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR. OUR FRIEND WITH THE CAIN TOLD ADAM THAT HE COULDN'T WALK DOWN THE STAIRS OR HE WOULD FALL. ADAM TOLD HIM THAT HE DIDNT CARE IF HE COULD WALK DOWN THE STAIRS OR NOT. WE WERE ALL TOLD AGAIN AS WELL AS OUR FRIEND , IF WE COULD NOT WALK DOWN THE STAIRS WE HAD TO LEAVE OR THE POLICE WOULD BE CALLED. ADAM ALSO STATED THAT IT WASN'T HIS PROBLEM FOR OUR FRIEND NOT BEING ABLE TO WALK DOWN THE STAIRS. . WE CONTINUED TO EXPLAIN TO ADAM THAT OUR FRIEND WOULD BE RISKING INJURING TO HIMSELF IF HE WAS FORCED TO WALK HANDICAPPED FRIEND BECAME VERY UPSET AS MOST PEOPLE WOULD WITH A SIMILAR MEDICAL CONDITION.
WE DECIDED IT WAS JUST BEST FOR ALL OF US TO LEAVE SO AS TO NOT CREATE A SCENE. I EXPLAINED TO ADAM THAT WE FELT THAT OUR FRIENDS RIGHTS UNDER THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT HAD BEEN VIOLATED. ADAM TOLD US TO JUST LEAVE . HE DIDNT CARE.
ALTHOUGH NONE OF US HUMANS ARE PERFECT, WE STILL HAVE RIGHTS AND SHOULD BE TREATED FAIRLY. ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH A HANDICAP.
WE WERE ALL IN SHOCK AS TO WHAT HAD OCCURRED. OTHER PATRONS AT ROCKY POINT RESTAURANT STOOD AND SAT THERE IN SHOCK.
WE AT MR D'S AND MYSELF SYLVANO GARCIA WOULD HOPE THAT THIS TYPE OF MISTREATMENT OF HANDICAPPED INDIVIDUALS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL. WE ALL ARE EXTREMELY UPSET. I HOPE I NEVER SEE THIS AGAIN IN MY LIFETIME.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE THIS WITH ALL YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS IF YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE HAS BEEN AN INJUSTICE DONE BY THE "ROCKY POINT RESTAURANT" MANAGEMENT SPECIFICALLY "ADAM" . THANK YOU...
Read moreMy girl and I visit Carmel from Los Angeles every year on my birthday. I used to live in Carmel and have been to Rocky Point many, many times over the years, always of course, for the drinks, food, and the 5-STAR view. This year, in June, we debated on my b-day night about going back there for dinner, so many restaurants to choose from in Carmel and, to be honest, the food at R.P. was never the reason we went there in the first place. Adequate at best, (I'm a vegetarian food freak), and bland was the most consistent adjective we usually came up with over the years. Well, we flipped a coin, the old standby won out, and I am here to say THINGS HAVE CHANGED AT ROCKY POINT! The food was incredible! Mine - the Mediterranean Platter with mouth watering humus, pita bread, perfect vegetables (that means amazing produce perfectly prepared) suggested and tweaked to my specs by a very friendly waiter. My girl's - the Rosemary Roasted Chicken, also perfection, perfectly cooked, succulent chicken breast - a quality tough to find ANYWHERE. It doesn't end there, the new (7 months) chef/general manager - Herman - showed up at our outside table, introduced himself and proceeded to share his passion for the art of cuisine and culinary skills, then for desert suggested the Rocky Point Cheese Cake. Well, not only did the mind blowing dinner topper show up, but a specially designed ice cream concoction custom made by genius, Chef Herman (who at this point was off duty!) THEN...after he had gone his way, we were delighted to be greeted by the owner himself - Dr. Wong and his lovely wife, who approached our table, chatted amiably with us and accepted our rave reviews over the experience we were still having with gracious humility and gratitude. Wow, our minds were blown! The staff was fabulous, appeared to be having a delightful time working there, the weather perfect, and then...there's the view...as always...oh my God! This is STILL and now even more, our FAVORITE RESTAURNAT in the world! Our only complaint is the six hour drive from L.A. for dinner in heaven. Hey, Dr. Wong, got any openings for a waitress and a busy boy? You know where to find us. In the meantime, see...
Read moreI have been eating at Rocky Point for quite a few years now. And though it pains me to say it, the place is not what it once was. I have always enjoyed the food, and my most recent visit (09/30/19) was no exception. And the location and view are amazing. My most recent visit we were greeted and seated promptly, our order taken and food delivered. Up to that point, a great experience. But after sitting for twenty minutes waiting (with my plate pushed to the empty place next to where I was sitting), I had to flag someone down to pack up what we intended to take home. And was promptly handed a couple "to-go" containers. Your mileage may vary, of course. But when I spend that kind of money for dinner, I expect little things like being asked if I have finished my meal, if I would like dessert, coffee, or an after dinner drink, and having someone carefully pack anything I plan to take home. At that point, I asked for the check. For context, the restaurant dining area was not very busy, most tables empty, in the late afternoon. Maybe they were short-staffed. But whatever the reason, it was a disappointing experience based on 5-star experiences I have had here in the past. I know this is all subjective, but when I visited in the past, with two or ten in my party, I was made to feel special, welcome, part of the family, with service that showed commitment and professionalism. I did not get that sense at all this time. Here's hoping it was just an off day. But for now, my...
