This place was beautiful on the outside as well as the inside. I was excited to try the coffee and pastries, especially because of all the great reviews. Sadly, we did not have that experience. When we walked in, we went over to the counter with all the options of coffee and food items. We asked about the options of coffee and I guess the employee just assumed we were talking about the inn. After we had asked about the coffee and food selection, they said that there was another building we probably missed, and brought us all the way to the inn. They led us to the inn and left as soon as we got inside. At this point we were already confused because the employee in the cafe never asked us exactly what we were wanting, so Iām not sure why they thought we were looking for the inn. We sat down and the employee working there told us how it worked but didnāt really explain much. They just told us it was several courses and whatever was on the menu that day. I kid you not, after everything was explained, the two employees and two people eating there left. It was almost comical. The two people sitting down eating their meal got quiet as soon as we were seated inside, stared at us, and left. Additionally, the two employees were no where to be found after they āexplainedā the menu. We ended up leaving because we were not sure if anyone would be back to take our orders. Quite frankly, we left because the whole experience felt weird and we didnāt want to eat somewhere that we felt unwelcome. I donāt knowā¦maybe we came on a bad day. Iām glad everyone else seemed to have a great experience, but that was just not the...

The building is a landmark with original floors and stairs, itās a treat to enjoy such a rustic, whimsical location. We canāt wait for this place to open back up in the spring to try the rest of their menu and sit on the back porch and enjoy the moment. The person that reviewed that their espresso as weak ordered a cappuccino which is literally a lot of milk and a little espresso. If you want a shot of espresso then order one. If you want an espresso with a little milk, order espresso macchiato donāt fault the merchant for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn the way back from a Vermont fall colors trip, just had to go a little out of the way to see, and experience, some of the West Virginia area that the YouTube couple, Wild Wonderful Off Grid, call almost heaven. Yup, pretty much.
So we stopped at the Lost River General Store; I had the pulled pork sandwich and my wife had a chicken panini. OMG, the best!
Have to admit though, it was all I could do not to by a square, amber vase they had in the window. I have no use for it but, it was gorgeous and reasonably priced.
Check out The Lost River Inn and General Store, even if it's out of your way. Almost heaven.
PS: best colors?...
