I recently stopped by the Oak Tavern for lunch, and this place is truly a hidden gem. From the outside, it looks a little roughâyou wouldnât imagine that there would be culinary delights inside. But it just goes to show, you canât always judge a book by its cover. Once inside, I was pleasantly surprised by the clean, well-kept space and the quality of the food.
I ordered the firecracker burger, and it was absolutely fantastic. The patty had stuffed jalapeños, adding the perfect kick. The consistency of the meat was just rightânot overworked or underworkedâgiving it the ideal texture for a burger. The buns were grilled (not just toasted), which added a great touch, and the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and juicy without being soggy. The lettuce was crisp and refreshing, and the jalapeños were delicious. All the way around, it was a really well-executed burger.
I wanted to try the Oak Barrels (stuffed tater tots), but the burger was so big that I couldn't finish both. As someone who travels a lot for work and eats a lot of burgers, this one definitely stood out. The meat was locally sourced from a nearby farm, and you could taste the quality. I really appreciated the fact that the kitchen was visible right in front of the restaurant. It was modern and very clean and well maintained. The staff was magnanimous and welcoming, making the entire experience warm and enjoyable.
This spot is a real gem, and Iâll definitely be back when Iâm in...
Read moreMy family's first ever visit - the waitress didn't introduce herself or make us aware of the menu board we couldn't see even after I announced it was our first time. Fine, that's minor but I would have loved to order something I saw after the fact when they pointed it out to another table. Then we wait for our appetizer, SIX cheese sticks for $9 with 5 people at the table. Fine, again that's minor details but to be made aware that there wasnt enough for everyone would have been courteous and an opportunity to upsell. Then we wait 28 minutes for our main meals - we were one of 3 tables when we arrived and the only ones waiting for food around 4:30pm. My toddler's burger bun was hard as a rock, all of our fries were hard and over fried, they never served the kid's drink that is included with the meal, chicken tenders were dry as jerky and that's not an exaggeration (couldn't figure out how to add the photos), my other son had tomato mixed into his wrap after we requested none, not once did we receive refills on the drinks we did get. No efforts were made to remedy anything. The waitress was "sorry" - yes, I am too because after a $90 bill we all have to go home and find other food. Do not recommend if you're not a regular and we will never return. Venture to Hillsdale for the Pub and Grub if you want good service and...
Read moreWe stopped here on the way home from Cold Water, MI. The food was excellent. I loved the atmosphere. It wasn't a typical bar to me. It had a homey feel to it. I ordered the Billy Butler, my daughter had The Popeye Flatbread, my SIL had the Firecracker burger and my grandson had the grilled cheese/fries...The fries are amazing! No one at the table was disappointed except my youngest grandson because he's not old enough to eat food yet, but he had to sit there and smell all the deliciousness đ I highly recommend The Oaks Tavern. I...
