Candlelight at Lake Carroll — Restaurant in Mount Carroll

Utterly disappointing. Looked forward to dinner on June 25. Arrived at 5:45pm. Restaurant was booked out so I went downstairs for the fish fry. The patio had many open tables; there were only two other tables with people seated. Waited 10 minutes. Fifteen minutes later many people started to arrive. Tables of five or more, all seated after me, ordered drinks and dinners. I tried numerous times to get a waitress to look my way. No luck. Not even a glass of water. Gave it ten more minutes and got up and left. Perhaps I expected too much from this new company but they are missing the boat. Waitstaff don't have a clue. I'll give them another try to see if it improves. As a member of Lake Carroll for 20 years, it's disheartening to see this. Bring back the old crew.

My daughter and son in law and 3 kids went there for dinner yesterday, Friday, 7/23/21. They were seated in the bar even though tables were empty in the dining room. They ordered drinks and burgers and onion rings. No utensils or napkins and glasses and plates were dirty and greasy and still had scraps from previous diners. Second bad experience. What has happened to a one time decent restaurant? Whoever the manager is should be cited by the Board of Health. Never again. Either Lake Carroll residents are happy with this slop or they haven't been out in a long time.

Went back yesterday, May 18, 2023. Were able to sit on the porch. Very pleasant. Our waiter was very pleasant but seriously over worked with tables outside, inside and in the bar. Why are you so short staffed?Ordered onion rings and a Reuben sandwich which had no taste. Even the sauerkraut was tasteless. Onion rings were gigantic and good. Had coffee and asked for dessert menu. Desserts served only on weekends. Who does that? Not even a cookie? I don't understand how Lake Carroll people rave about this restaurant. At least at McDonald's you can get a cookie or some ice cream. The menu here is very limited. Call me a foodie snob but they need...

I've been to 2 of the other Candlelights many times over the course of about 50 yrs as a I grew up in Sterling. I've been to this one twice and both times the service was horrible. First time was during the summer and it was quite loud and crowded which was what you would expect at a golf club with all that energy. It took forever for the waitress to even take our order and didn't check on us at all until we were done eating. The food was okay but it would have been nice to have our drinks refilled. The wait time for food both times we went was acceptable. Our 2nd time was yesterday. There were maybe 4 people at the bar and nobody at tables until about 10 min before we left. The women (dark hair) that took our order spent almost the entire time chatting with her back to us with the couple that were at the bar, not paying attention for us enough to even get her attention to let her know the garlic mashed potatoes were below warm, I would say room temp at best. We shouldn't have been expected to yell to her or go up to the bar to interrupt the convo to address this. We were almost done with our Chicken George before she walked by us going to the people that had just sat down at a table. My husband and I had a wonderful experience at candlelight we were greeted with beautiful flags up and down the sidewalk and then when we came in it was decorated for the 4th of July. The staff were dressed in festive patriotic colors even to having glitter in their hair and beards it Etc it was so much fun. My husband had chicken George it was absolutely amazing. I had ground sirloin done to perfection tasted amazing. Then we had Steve's homemade tuxedo cake consisting of cake, cream filling, a Divine chocolate mousse and a very thin frosting. Let's just say it was a delicacy. There is no other way to say it we had a wonderful time and they did a wonderful job. Now that's what I call a good time. We felt like we were spoiled. Oh and another thing they didn't freeze us out or cook us out the temperature was just right. At Lake Carroll with you is so beautiful.
