I have a mixed review of our stay at Shin Pond Village. I will say overall the facility is maintained well and is lovely. If you are looking for a place that has cell phone service or WIFI, this might not be the place for you. I will preface this review by stating we went specifically to this location to enjoy some downtime in a COVID world. A majority of our group works in customer facing roles and this was our opportunity to decompress and step away from our hectic day to day jobs. We also selected this location based on our ability to be remote and still have access WIFI even though there was no cell service. This would allow us to Upon our arrival, the furnace was not working appropriately. We were instructed via the onsite book to text Blaine first. Texted Blaine and after no response called Craig who is the second listed person. Craig was fantastic and responded right away. Upon his arrival and in the course of his visit, he disclosed he had just returned from a business trip to Mexico. While I don't begrudge Craig his trip, he should have disclosed that prior to stepping into the home and certainly should have been masked. Two days later as we sat enjoying the evening, the WIFI went out. Since it was 8pm in the evening, we let it go. When it was not restored the following morning, we went to the office. We were promptly told Blaine would get in touch with us. Blaine came down later in the morning, told us that he had received notification the night prior that the WIFI was out. We explained our situation and he indicated he would follow up with us. No follow up. Following day we went back to the office and were told Blaine would be in touch. No follow up. Again, we communicated to him the importance of us having WIFI. Three days later, Blaine informed us that no WIFI would be forthcoming and he didnt know when it would be restored. Blaine offered little alternative without his customer's prompting. Additionally, he never followed up post check out as he indicated he would. Poor customer service which is unfortunate for a business that has been as long standing as the business Terry and Craig have run.
UPDATE As of 11/25/2020, Craig has tested positive for COVID. Don't worry that communication didn't come from Shin Pond Village as it should, it came from the local hospital. Tread carefully when booking at an establish not following...
Read moreMy family and I did a quick google search on locations up north (ME, VT and NH) that offered onsite ATV rentals... Shin Pond Village was the first one I clicked... I am absolutely thrilled i picked them... Lovely facility and the hospitality was amazing. We were coming from a 6 hr drive and didnt know what they had in the area so we took ALOT more then what we needed.. They had everything on site... From toilet paper to drinks, to soap and ice cream! They also have a bar and restaurant.. (Prices are very fair and the quality is amazing) The first night my family sat down in the restaurant, an older gentleman sparked a convo w/ us... we spoke about ALOT of different things from him working for the fire dept to trails to ride w/ the ATVs.. Coming to find out, he was the owner... I honestly cant say enough good things about this place... Craig, Blaine and the whole rest of the staff was absolutely amazing and we'll be making this 6 hr trip again soon.. This time, we'll packing a little lighter knowing you have just about everything one could need.. Including those amazing UTVs.. That machine was an absolute BLAST and the rental process was like a well oiled machine. Thank you all for an amazing...
Read moreGreat location in terms of getting to Baxter State Park, and especially to the Katahdin Woods and Waters. It was kind of management to let us shift from a tent site to a cabin, due to the abundance of Black Flies. Beautiful cabins and suites to choose from. (Thank goodness it was early in the season.) Good sweet potato fries. Clean, but we suggest to have dishes re-cleaned after previous guest...we had some dirty dishes and silverware. Our other suggestions is for bath towel hangers in bathroom. More sound insulation between rooms. (We were in Katahdin and the people next to us could easily be heard.) staff was very friendly and helpful in giving us directions. We talked to management about the upcoming April 8th, 2024 total solar eclipse. We are certain we will be there. We would gladly pay the 50% down now to hold one of the cabins, but it would be wonderful if something came up six months before the reservation and we had to cancel, that we could get a refund, or a % of the down payment back. Thank you for the wonderful stay. We would highly recommend the...
