What a place this was. I went to this joint with 4 others on a Friday night. The host was polite but avoided pleasantries like "how are you?". We were sat relatively quickly and it didn't take long for the waiter to take our drink orders. Opening the menu and seeing some of the ridiculous prices for items was a turn off. I settled on an extremely simple menu item, the bean nachos. The wait for the food wasn't long but somehow they managed to mess it up. They had "upgraded" it, or as their menu reflects, made into a supreme (lettuce, tomato, sour cream, jalapenos, guac). But it wasn't even that, as it lacked jalapenos. The plate was absolutely scorching hot and it was at that moment I felt like Gordan Ramsey on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, they had microwaved the nachos. If you've met a microwave you know how they are, inconsistent. One bite would be skin melting in the Mcdonalds drive-thru hot, the next lukewarm and sad. I decided to just eat around the "supreme" add-on. I looked around at my constituents plates and they weren't any better off. One had received an incorrect protein in their tacos, another had fried rice that tasted off. It was at this time we stopped seeing our server, each time he'd come he'd be gone for even longer. Most of the time it seemed he was tending the bar. Of course I understand the staffing issues and respect those in the service industry as I was at one time, but its obvious management has their head stuck where the sun does not shine. Simply observe their current and past sanitation ratings. At one point, they went from an 83 at the beginning of the month then to an 80 at the end of the month, WHICH MEANS THE HEALTH INSPECTOR CAME BACK TO GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO RAISE THE SCORE AND THEY BLEW IT. Things do indeed change, however, as they managed to see just enough sunlight from their back hole to raise it to its current score of 93. We were finally brought our checks and saw they had charged for the "supreme" add-on I didn't ask for and the 2 checks for the table had the wrong food items on them. We waited about 10 minutes for them to come around and even collect the checks, by this time, everyone was just ready to leave. We didn't bother voicing our complaints as there was rarely someone around to listen.
Edit: The owner’s response claims this is fake. Boy do I wish, I took no pleasure sinking my earned cash into expensive excuses for edible food. By no means am I trying to hurt anyone who is employed here. This is but a warning to my fellow consumers. To avoid this establishment. Notice in the response there was no responsibility taken for the quality of the food and claims were made stating that the owner is always in the back of the house checking food. The owner must have lower standards for edible product than my paying table of 5. The owner chose to throw these hard times up as a blanket excuse for everything mentioned in this review. Instead of taking this as constructive criticism. I find no joy leaving bad reviews, but my experience both in person at this establishment and communication with the owner via their response has really taken the cake of my overall top worst restaurant...
Read moreAfter reading the reviews we chose to give this restaurant a try anyway. Let me first tell you the service was as bad as you could ever imagine. There was one man serving in the place, he barely spoke to us. The service was so slow and he was very very rude. What ever, we can deal with that because the food was actually delicious. Fast forward to tonight, we went back excited to eat there again. As we walk in the same guy is there and looks at us right away. We sit down and he comes immediately over with a copy of our bill from the first time saying we didn't pay our bill! You can see on his copy that for some reason $8 and some change was charged to our debit card and I guess not out full $40+ dollar bill. He tells us we didn't pay our bill and they had called the police on us that night! WHAT?!? When we ate there he brought us the bill, we gave him our card and He ran it! You could even see where my husband signed, just because he somehow processed the wrong amount, how is that us not paying?!? When I said, you can see where we signed, we gave you our card... He then said well we must have only had $8 in your account at the time. What in the world??? That doesn't even make sense? The card would have gone through and charged us an overdraft fee or it would have been declined... But that is besides the point because we had plenty of money to cover the bill. How did we have any control over what they ultimately ran our card for? We were so shocked and at this point mad because we have worked in restaurants and would never ever EVER run out on the tab. We also have 2 small children with us at the time mind you. The fact that they kept the receipt from weeks ago and aggressively approached and confronted us like we are criminals is mind blowing to me! How in the world is that how you treat your customers? A simple, "hey I don't know if you are aware but we didn't charge you correctly last time" would have gone so far! But to say you involved the police!! Are you kidding me?? We left $40 cash on the table and got the hell out of there! No one should give this place a dime of your hard earned money! Ridiculous! I have never in my life been treated so poorly! Insane! And to top it off my husband asked for the name of the owner and contact information just so we could make sure it was clear we didn't walk out on the bill. The managers response was "no" and that the owner didn't care to get involved. Stay away people!
Oh and to add insult to injury, during their confrontation we mentioned how we overlooked all the bad reviews and gave them the benefit of the doubt. The managers response was "we get bad reviews because people don't want to pay for their food". Um, no! People just expect a certain level of service. People are happy to pay! We paid and you didn't even process it right! But I guess that...
Read moreThey're improving! I've lived nearby for about 3 years. When i firt came the food just wasn't that good unless you like generic TexMex but then you could pick just about any restaurant for that. They've updated the menu twice and switched around what they offer, they also just recently renovated the style of the place and added some peruvian and some fusion items to the menu. If your looking at reviews keep in mind that older reviews from before 05/25 that they had different offerings from the kitchen.
+Takeaway Mexico is a big country they have regional specialties, I am not personally a huge fan of TexMex style but I've been able to find some solid staples here that i enjoy and they seem to be genuinely improving their offerings. They have a nice covered patio for when the weather is nice and on some evenings (usually the weekend or holidays) they will have live music performers. I've been there when they have a band and also a guy with a guitar that will walk around and play for the tables
Pros -The beer and drinks have always been solid (doe equis on tap and drink specials) -The Peruvian chicken has been a nice add to their chicken and rice (you can order 1/-1/2 chicken with multiple sides. the Peruvian chicken with rice and beans is great. -Their Burrito al pastor and salad options i enjoy as well -on occasion i'll go with their enchiladas which area great, but i tend to shy away from excessive levels of cheese so tend to prefer the Al pastor without the cheese poured over it (it's filling enough!) -They have a hot salsa behind the counter that gives just the right amount of spice to the meals -The staff is very polite and if you I ask them for anything they will take care of you though sometimes depending on the busy level and the server you may have to get...
