We come to Mt.Vernon once a week to visit my Mother-in-law, who's in a nursing home there. We have a favorite restaurant that we frequent, but today we decided we wanted to try a new (to us) place. Texas Barbeque Corral came up in my Google search, and the reviews were good, so we decided to try it. It was 6PM on Thursday, and Google said they closed at 8, so, no problem. The food is delicious! We both ordered the 2 meat plate; both of us got brisket and sausage. The plate comes with either 2 sides or a baked potato. I got green beans and potato salad and hubby got a baked potato. We're both picky about sausage, but this was really good, not too greasy like some sausage can be. The brisket was flavorful, juicy and tender! I love good brisket, and this is one of the best I've had. I didn't even want BBQ sauce on it! The green beans are cooked with ham in them, which I love, and the potato salad was awesome! Hubby's baked potato looked great, and he said it was; and it was huge! We had more food than we could eat, and all for the bargain price of $28. About halfway through our meal, it appeared that the staff were cleaning everything up as though they were closing. I checked the time, and it was 6:50; turns out they close at 7! We felt bad, coming in just as they were about to close, and we told them as much. They were very nice and insisted it wasn't a problem. We will definitely go again, but we'll call first to check their closing times. If you love BBQ, you'll love Texas...
Read moreIf you want BBQ in Mount Vernon, TX THIS is the place to go. Truckers, there's truck parking in the dirt lot, just watch the bumps.
Every time I ate at the BBQ place in the nearby T/A truck stop it turned my stomach.
That's never happened at the times I've eaten at Texas BBQ Corral since discovering it. The meats are all good and the baked potatoes are actually the reason I stop by. They're not as huge as some places (potato here in lieu of side items with the plate) but perfectly cooked and the cheese, butter, and sour cream haven't ever been bad (an issue when you're on the road and you don't know if you can trust a place with foods that should be kept cold).
About the only problem with the place is deciding what to get each time in addition to the...
Read moreSome of the best BBQ I have ever had. Perfectly smoked brisket and the sausage was amazing. I ordered the Big Tex, two meats on Texas Toast. Y'all... It's worth the stop and then some. My buddy had the two meat plate, same meats and he agreed it was all spectacular. It's a homey atmosphere, a little bit old diner, a little bit your uncle Steve who lives in the country. Lots of animal heads on the wall, but if you're stopping here you're not a vegan anyways. We also had banana pudding that tastes like your aunt Linda made it this morning. Oh and the tea was great too, brewed strong enough to know it's tea and sweet enough for a Texan adult.
And the portions, I've got a belly but...
