Update: After getting home with my food we find out they forgot to give us half the order. As well as we ordered chicken tender with fries for the kids and it was a dry baked chicken breast with about 6 fries. Needless to say the kids didn’t eat a single bite, that’s not chicken tenders… I have hesitated to write this review, thinking my past three visits to Sam’s Italian Restaurant were just unfortunate off nights. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Every time I order takeout, I end up waiting well over 30 minutes past the expected pickup time. It’s incredibly frustrating to plan for a quick takeout meal only to be stuck waiting without any updates or apologies. As if the long wait wasn’t bad enough, their waiting area is downright unsafe. There are exposed electrical outlets with missing cover plates—an obvious hazard, especially for families with small children. It’s unbelievable that a restaurant could be so careless with customer safety. It’s a real shame because I wanted to support a local business, but after multiple disappointing experiences, we won’t be returning

Labor Day evening in the Flint area finds a lot of the nice eateries closed until Tuesday. Mike suggested Sam's in Rankin, a place I've driven by a lot but haven't visited since my dad took me there for a drink right after I turned 21 which was a VERY long time ago. As my sister and brother-in-law, who have visited often said, the restaurant was great. We arrived while the sun was setting and parked in back where I was surprised to see a large parking lot that you can't see from Grand Blanc Rd which is why I never thought the place was busy with only a few cars in front. The corn field to the East was bathed in setting sunlight and I had to take a photo. Our server was polite and efficient. Most people ordered the eggplant parmigiana because it was delicious and hard to prepare at home. My sister and I had the Stromboli special. Mine was beautiful and huge, but it should have been hotter.

We reserved a month in advance my dad's 75th Birthday. They have a space for 35 and another for 75 people if I recall. We had to take the larger room. Because we only had 35 people coming, I thought we would have extra tables for display items. We didn't because they did separate the room for a after funeral lunch. I appreciated that they accommodated the grieving family! As for the tables....the staff gave us 3 tables for my request and it worked out fabulously! They allowed balloons and our additional desserts (cake and kolachi). The pizza buffet was impressive...8 different pizzas chef's choice. The kids loved the samaritos. The pasta was great too. They were very friendly and we didn't feel rushed and respected the time allotted us. The party could not have gone better. We brought our own speaker to play our polkas too.

I have never left a review nor have I ever sent my food back at a restaurant until yesterday. We went in with 11 for my sister in laws Bday. Service was good and food came out quickly however issues started from the beginning with salads. The ranch was or had to be expired. The most sour, rancid tasting ranch ive ever had. My kids put ranch on EVERYTHING and wouldnt even touch it after a bite. Then came our meals. My wife got stuffed peppers which came out with about a half inch of water/grease under the cheese. I got a pick two combo with stuffed shells and veal. The veal was prefrozen product AND severely overcooked. It was like chewing rubber. The filling for the peppers/shells is so over cooked there is no texture nor flavor. Its like meat paste. Tomato sauce tastes like it comes from a can and gets doctord up with some veggie puree or something. Stuff straight off the grocery shelf is better. No salt or flavor again. My 84 year old grandmother got a chicken sandwich it it was nearly inedible. The chicken was so hard you could hear it clank on her fork. My daughter order a buger off the kids menu and it came out still bloody, underseasoned and on a bun that was stale. The ONLY meal we complained about was mine. I took literally TWO bites, expressed my concerns to my server, and not only was i still charged full price, i also got to pay the lovely "convenience fee" because i paid with a card. I have been in the restaurant industry for almost 25 years now and am an Executive chef and my wife has served or been a bartender for 15 years and we have never heard of such poor business practices. Wasnt offered a new meal, no discount, no coupon for a return visit. I paid 80 bucks and my family didnt even eat a combine 25% of their meals. No one tood their leftovers.....is that common place here?

Save your money and make this at home, its far better...

We had terrible service. Our waitress took our order and then delivered our appetizer and left and never came back. Then she brought our salad which really should have been brought with the samoritos (bread puffs) and just leaves, never checks back. Mean while we're sitting there with dirty plates waiting. Luckily the table next to us was empty and had already been set with clean plates that we swiped. The italian salad dressing was pure oil so I got up and walked across the restaurant find the servers station and help my self to the red wine vinegar. Again no one stops me or asks if we need anything. And on the far side of the restaurant a waitress is vaccuuming off and on the majority of the time we were there. We went at about 730 on a Sunday night. Finally our waitress comes with our pizza. I told her we needed the dirty plates removed and we needed clean plates. She never apologizes and takes off to the back for a long time. So again I swipe the clean plates from the other table so my children can start to eat. When she shows back My husband asks for more salad dressing that was proper. She never apologizes just "what so u want me to do? Do u want yo go back there and shake it up?" I just asked for a pitcher of water as 3 out of the 5 water glasses were completely empty a box for my salad and a box for pizza, and the bill. We're done, an expensive and completely exhausting experience. This place used to be nice and I didn't mind spending top dollar for their pizza but service and food quality has been going downhill for a while and not...

I ordered take out a few times last week (8/6 & 8/8 )the girl who was out front was amazing she took payment went back and let the other lady know that I had arrived and when she came back she said it would be a few extra minutes and it was a few extra minutes about 20 and the lovely girl up front had me and everyone else in the waiting room laughing. It made the wait period a lot more enjoyable, made the time go by faster than any other time that I have waited for food. Then the young lady who brought me the food set it on the counter didn’t say my name and just stood there and stared at me awkwardly which seems to happen every time I’ve ordered the past 6 months she brings it out and same interaction each time. the lady who’s was out front stepped into the awkwardness and asked if I’d like to look at my pizza and if I was satisfied! Which I was the food is so delicious that’s why we order all the time. But the new lady out front makes waiting so enjoyable that’s why I had to write a review! Not sure of her name but she was the only one without an apron on. Then I ordered a few nights later on Friday (8/8) and I wasn’t met with the big smile and hello like I was a few nights before, and was brought my food after waiting a few extra minutes again hoping to have another enjoyable interaction with the staff but was left alone out front with the other patrons waiting and the same girl brought me my food as last time and it was just awkward again. I left the restaurant thinking why work in hospitality when you can’t smile or even interact...
