Highly recommend Bear Trap Inn for their quality of service & food. Affordable dining and great family atmosphere. We took a trip Up to sight-see and the Bear Trap Inn was our dinner stop on Friday night. We had a long day of driving and our youngest was getting tired and a bit cranky. We entered the restaurant and got a booth and our toddler started to cry she wanted her blanket. My husband went to grab it out of the car quick to quiet her down and make her happy so we could enjoy a meal. All in all she was making noise for 1 1/2 minutes tops and it was done. I understand a crying child or one throwing a fit is annoying and I wouldnât have stayed and made others suffer if she were to continue. But, As if my child getting upset and crying didnât stress me out enough, a customer who didnât give her a chance to calm down without getting upset first, got up throws his hands up and says, âAre you kidding me!? This is ridiculous, Iâm trying to enjoy my meal!â I was beside myself couldnât believe someone could actually get so angry so quick and treat someone and a child they didnât know like that. I said, âIâm sorry I didnât realize since I have a toddler weâre not allowed to eat too.â He started in on me more and thatâs when a wonderful waitress, Heather interrupted him and told him his actions are inappropriate she is just a toddler and that everyone is welcome at the Bear Trap Inn, itâs a family restaurant. He was not happy with our responses and grabbed his meal and moved to the other side of the restaurant. He continued to glare unkindly at my family while we stayed and enjoyed our dinner. My toddler was well-behaved and quiet the rest of the duration of our time spent at the Bear Trap Inn. Each waitress working that evening approached my family and apologized profusely for the rude actions of the other customer. They made sure we didnât feel as though we werenât welcome and that we were taken care of. The food & service was excellent and we will definitely be coming back next time we are in town! I appreciate the great service from our waitress Valerie and the kind help from Heather when I was being verbally attacked for bringing in a child to the family restaurant. Thank you so much for going...
Read moreSoooo... I've been working in food and beverage for 22 years and I am really forgiving in almost all cases...except this one. I was super disappointed in the service and food. We came in, sat at the bar and it took 10-12 minutes before we were even acknowledged. 4 different server/bartenders walked right past us without even looking at us. Once Penny greeted us and got our drinks....it took her another 15 minutes to take our order. We ordered and I knew my meal came with a soup or salad but she never asked I figured I read it wrong and didn't say anything. (Mind you, they were NOT busy) There were 2 cook's on as well!!! While Penny was taking our order, she was still chewing the food that she stood and ate in front of us while we were waiting to be waited on. Once she took our order, she never brought our bread, communicated that there was a soup/salad bar across the restaurant or ever checked back. That is unacceptable! Then, 30 minutes later, a nice girl with pinkish hair that had been doing half of 5 girls work (I would love to know her name to put it here) got us refills on our beverages. 40 minutes later, our food finally came out(still not busy) Also, in the long time we waited, we witnessed 2 of the girls eating mozzarella sticks, licking their fingers and NOT washing their hands...are you kiddng me??? The food comes out, my green beans are cold to the touch, my gravy is at body temp. That's when Heather came along and her service and personality was great!!!!! I knew she genuinely felt bad for the service that was provided so I never complained about the food...it wasn't her fault. Heather and the girl with the pinkish hair were great. The rest was a huge disappointment. I still tipped 25 percent only because I, myself...
Read moreWe hunt in Munising Michigan every year. Got done with our hunt and wanted to find a place that served food as we got out of the woods later than anticipated. I called Bear Trap and asked how late they serve food and they said 10pm. So we headed home showered, changed and rushed over there by 9:41 when we walked in they said they served their last table next to us, which placed an order as we got seated. The server said we should know bar time is 15 minutes before close and âeveryone knows bar time.â The server was helpful and tried to get us at least appetizers and came back saying they werenât even willing to do that. Asked for the manager who we talked to with red hair and a beard and said yeah everyone knows âbar timeâ and pointed to a sign behind the bar. If you stop serving food at 9:45, if I call in why would you say you serve until 10, which we explained. Youâd think theyâd make an exception being they told us 10 on the phone. Nope. The manager was rude and basically said we shouldâve known better. Do not go here. Theyâre beer was skunked their service sucks and I highly recommend finding something else. Locals said that they wonât step in this place because of the poor management although their is limited options in Shingleton. We shouldâve listened. Never have I been treated like this especially in a town that visitors are severely down this year according to an article just posted the other day. Just bad business and we will...
