I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars, despite one caveat. Although the seafood offerings are fantastic, they also sell pizza. The pizza is awful. I had one that was topped with plenty of delicious cheese, but the crust was truly lacking. If you like traditional "New York" style pizza, this is not it.
With that out of the way, this is by far the best place for crabs and traditional Maryland seafood west of Frederick. There are a couple of okay-ish places in Hagerstown, but it's usually worth the 15 minute drive to Myersville. As always, you should call first for available crab sizes, but you'll probably find the best selection here. The sides are great too, which include Maryland crab soup, cream of crab soup, (both excellent!) hush puppies, salads and more. They also have several varieties of shrimp tacos, which are also excellent.
Two things that could be better, are the parking, and the limited seating. While it may be possible to eat inside, the accommodations are spartan, and there is no separate dining room, so you'd be eating in the same room with the counter traffic. There is on-site parking behind the building, but it's down a steep hill that you'll need to walk back up to get to the entrance. (There is on handicapped spot at the top, in front of the store.) There is also parking at a small shopping center across the street. So if you want to avoid walking up the steep hill, there is that.
Another thing I'll mention, is like many places these days, there is a tip option on the checkout terminal. There is also a jar for tips, and a sign saying how a tip is like a hug or something. Sorry, but this is overkill. It's like the whole country thinks it's Las Vegas now. If you're serving me a drink, bringing food to my table, or delivering food to my house, you deserve a tip. If you go above and beyond in some other way, that might also warrant a tip, but putting pressure on customers to "tip the house" when you are basically a carry-out restaurant is insulting. Maybe it's built-in to the software and you don't have a choice, but it's a disturbing trend, and in combination with the sign and jar,...
Read moreWe were traveling from Florida up to Maryland, We had our heart set on having some seafood for our dinner but found out a lot of places we're closing.. JB Seafood and crew..we're so congenial, I was worried because I know I wouldn't have been upset with someone ordering and showing up to pick it up only 15 minutes before closing. Everyone was so Is friendly and efficient..... I had never known there Was anything besides Apalachicola oysters that we get in Florida but they were kind enough to explain the different types of oysters .... Helpful in every way about the different Items. Jesse ordered the poboy catfish... I had decided on the crab dip and the creamy crab soup.. It was all very delicious... On a side note when we got to the hotel which was about 20 or 30 minutes away when wind pack so it was almost another hour before before I thought we had not gotten the crab dip and I called back then realize they were probably closed. A. A gentleman answered an offer to bring it to me and I explained we were about a 1/2 hour away he was more than willing to bring it to me And I told him to please have them give him part of the tip I had left he explained he was the owner.. I was so impressed because you don't see that kind of service every day Not sure that I would have offered to drive someone's order to them.... The even wanted to see if I needed additional silver or plates and fresh pita to go with the dip and also offer to heat the deep to bring it to me.... I find that sort of generosity very impressive.... A few minutes later I had, for some reason place the crab dip over by the cell phones and chargers so I called him back to let him know That it was my error.. he was still very polite... I would have been irritated with someone for putting me through that .. Enjoy the food so much we already plan to return there someday... It was such a quaint little spot we thought maybe they should be in a bigger city definitely would love to have one where we live.... Thanks again to that owner and the 2 girls...
Read moreTaco Tuesday. An average regular day? I dare say no. I wandered into JBS with my sixteen year old son, a friend, and, her eleven year old granddaughter. My son had a burger and according to him the best fries he has ever had. Hot, fresh, delicious, with the perfect texture and amount of old Bay, which he applied himself. I ordered a crab ball, and a sea scallop wrapped in bacon. Both were cooked to perfection and were served hot enough to make me pause a minute before diving in. I also shared large steamed shrimp with my friend. She shared her fried chicken with me. It was still sizzling when it arrived, and was crispy, light, and cooked perfectly. I ordered as an afterthought some Cole slaw which was described by the staff as in between sweet and tart. It was delicious and I would have believed them if they said they were still in the back mixing it up as it was so crunchy and fresh. My only disappointment was that there was only bottled soda, but the full cups of ice brought to our table made up for it. Oh, and I never got to taste the king crab legs my friends granddaughter ordered. They looked amazing. We will return next time when the kids...
