Updating my orgional review bc google just prompted me to rate my trip.
Well we're currently getting me dinner on the way home from Fat Jimmy's because my dinner there was so terrible. All of my previous trips there both the food and the service have been great even if the noise is always off putting. Tonight was terrible.
Tonight was taco pork night, our first time trying them. My husband ordered a pork taco. My son ordered ribs. My other son ordered a pork taco and his was made with shredded bbq pork not the taco pork. Asked girl behind the counter to redo it. She got majorly rude but did. I confirmed tacos came with lettuce then ordered a taco. I was given chicken in a taco shell. Ugh. She was so nasty earlier I just sucked it up. Ordered pasta salad + potato salad. Got mashed potaoes (?) and pasta salad. Tried to holler over the taller than me partition and noise that it was wrong. Nothing. Moving on. Asked for only a little bit of cheese and sour cream. Maybe she misheard me over the noise because she coated my taco in them. Great I'm lactose intolerant and planned to bring a pill to enjoy a tiny bit. Not a mountain of sour cream. Get to the end and there was no lettuce. I specifically made sure tacos would come with lettuce or I would have ordered my standard order. Thankfully one of the owners got me lettuce. Which they have never served. So not only was server rude gave me the wrong thing twice she lied about lettuce. sigh
Go to eat the food that is wrong but at least has greens on the taco now after scrapping off some dairy and taking a pill. It was cold. My chicken in the taco was cold. I gave up.
Went to ask for a to go box. The nice cashier who made sure I got lettuce told the rude girls in line the meat was cold. One made a rude noise, face and threw up her hands in a whatevet motion in front of me and the other customers in line and checking out. Same girl who got nasty with me. I was offered more chicken but I didn't want chicken in the first place let alone more cold chicken.
The owner came over and apologized. He sent me home with brisket to go and I left my uneaten taco. The owner also said he would be putting in carpet to dull the noise level. Thank god. Its hard to have a conversation there with the person next to you let alone try to shout to the server who is being insulting and rude that you'd like your order as ordered.
Bottom line the owners are great. The food when you get what you order is great. The new counter girls were so awful I probably won't be back, at least not for a long time. I don't want to risk another trip like this one. Going out to dinner with the family when your hungry to get insulted and eyerolls from teenage girls only to get cold food you DIDN'T order with enough dairy to make my physically sick didn't sit...
Read moreI’d been waiting to try out Fat Jimmy's Smokehouse & Catering since before it ever opened and finally got the chance this weekend. The drive along the mighty Mississippi was in its self worth the trip, breath taking even in the winter time. The place its self was neat, I can’t imagine taking in their impressive outdoor seating on a nice day. Their menu is small basically BBQ only plus some sides and a few desserts. Let’s talk about the sides first an impressive selection to begin with, with some unexpected gems not normally found at a BBQ restaurant. My first selection was the broccoli pasta salad which contained purple grapes. This may have been one of the best sides ever at such a place. I don’t usually do baked beans out however I felt daring this particular night and I’ll have to say they packed a little spice but they were without a doubt the best I’ve had. I was able to taste the coleslaw it was different with a bite of vinegar and some peppers. I’d try it again. Their sweet potatoes were amazing or at least the generous portions of melted, gooey marshmallows on top. I didn’t get to try the other sides but next time the Snicker apple salad will be at the top of my wish list. I will say Fat Jimmy did not skimp on the portions, no small little cups here. On this trip I tried the brisket and the burnt ends, the gold standard for any BBQ restaurant. Now please understand when I talk about BBQ meats I am a Kansas City BBQ society judge so I have tasted the best BBQ in the world and comparing it to restaurant BBQ is tough. To start off with I was a little skeptical when the burnt end dinner was cheaper than the brisket and it didn’t take long to understand why they were not true burnt end by the true definition. I’ve no doubt it was from the point and it was returned to the smoker to finish rendering out the fat, but it was more or less pulled and not cubed it did contain some bark but was also mushy. It did however not taste bad. The brisket was also way over cooked and fell to pieces, not a chance to get a slice. It too tasted good and had a good smoke flavor to it. I have had worse even in competitions. I did see someone eating the ribs and they fell off the bone a mortal sin when it comes to ribs. Fat Jimmy's Smokehouse & Catering’s selection of BBQ sauces was interesting all name brand grocery store names list Sweet Baby Ray’s but I will have to say I was impressed to see they did have Blues Hog on tap, which is one of the most used commercial BBQ sauces on the KCBS circuit. With all this said I will...
Read moreIt was a big disappointment.
I had the beef brisket on a bun with 2 sides for $15. I drank unsweetened iced tea.
My husband had the prime rib with 2 sides for $25.
My beef brisket had little flavor if any. There were 4 choices for barbecue sauce you had to get a container and pump it yourself. (Blue Hig, Sweet Baby Ray's, KC Masterouece and Harbebero). The 1st side I had was cheesy hash brown dish. There wasn't anything special about it it really wasn't that good. My 2nd side was green beans just plain green beans but there was pepper on them and there was too much pepper. I was unable to finish them. 3 of my green beans had black ends.
The prime rib my husband ordered was not the best cut there was no smokiness to it and basically no flavor. One of the workers was walking around with a bottle of horseradish sauce it was great value brand and she wanted to know if he wanted any? No thanks..His first side was the cheesy hash Brown dish that I had ordered and his 2nd side dish was baked beans. There was nothing special about them either. It reminded you have some you get out of the can like Van Kamp brand or Great Value brand. There was no smoky or no real flavor at all.
This is a clean restaurant and it also looks really nice from the . There's not a lot of room for parking and there's poor lighting outside if you come in the evening.
I posted my review of this restaurant on their Facebook page but it has been deleted. This was a $65 meal and there really wasn't anything that good about it at . You are not waited on by witressed. The staff serve you your food and you go seat yourself. Very pricey for such poor to average quality.
Beware or even better...
