Welp, we just ate there unfortunately and I beg you, don't do it. Do not eat here even if you're starving. We have eaten at another location in Nebraska and it was alright but THIS one is disgusting and an absolute waste of money and time.
Let's get into it: The iced tea was burnt. The nice waiter made another batch but when he topped off my husband's glass of new tea, he did so with the bad batch that he hadn't thrown out...My husband ordered the French dip sandwich with fries. His sandwich was mostly devoid of any sign of meat and what little there was had zero seasoning or flavor on any kind. The hoagie roll was presogged for us for some reason and by the time it got to the table, you could run your finger along and all the sludgy bread would follow. His fries were LITERALLY shimmering in the dim light from the amount of salt that was on them. I felt so bad for him as he ate it.
I had the Philly cheese steak with a baked potato. The baked potato was alright but they do not offer you real butter, just a heads up. My Philly was disgusting. The cook, who obviously hates his job, didn't toast my bread but it was clearly warmed on the dirty flat top. I could taste everything he had previously made on said piece of equipment to include something that had cinnamon and sugar. You could CLEARLY taste cinnamon and sugar on my garlic hoagie. The meat was unseasoned, dried out and gross. The peppers, onions and mushrooms were microwaved, nuclear hot compared with the sandwich and I burned two places in my mouth as well as my hand when one onion fell out of the sandwich.
Why didn't we send it all back? We were absolutely terrified of what the cook may produce as a replacement honestly. He should be fired and never allowed near a commercial kitchen again!
We figured oh well and ordered two pieces of pie to go so we could have SOMETHING delicious from this place. Yeah, their premade pie slices are over 5$ a slice! Which we didn't find out about until after we paid.
So we got two DISGUSTING sandwiches, one tea and one water, and two slices of pie to go, total was 39.04$ WHAT A WASTE! NEVER...
Read moreMy wife and I run long haul OTR. Rolled into your Odessa, NE location Thursday (4/8) at 07:45 PM ready for a hot meal from Apple Barrel. Having earlier that day planned our 700/mi trip around stopping here for the night after reading the restaurant was open until 11pm imagine our disappointment when we walked in a few minutes after 8pm to be met by a chair in the entrance way that said "closed at 8pm". This from a location that advertises being open until 11pm and from a company that states right on their website AS WELL AS the Sapp Brothers website that all locations are open daily until "At least 10pm". We returned to our truck and called inside to ask if we could at least place a to go order citing the length of our trip and plan to stop here based on the advertised hours to be turned down only with the explanation that the reason the restaurant is closing early is a lack of staff. So, nothing else available in this remote area and it now being too late to get to another truck stop with a restaurant we'll eat emergency food on the truck... Thanks Apple Barrel, and I'm SHOCKED that Sapp Brothers is allowing this, NOT what I've come to expect from you. Will definitely make me think twice before I stop...
Read moreIt was 5 mins to closing time (11 pm) and I asked if my wife and I could eat and the woman was super nice and said yes that it was fine. They seemed like they had a long night and they were just finishing. The hamburgers were great! They tasted homemade. Really well done, only complaint would be that the bun was very crispy but overall not bad at all. The place is clean a few thing out of date but still home based. The staff have a family and friend vibe. My experience was great. Thank you for serving my wife and I so late. To the people who got steak at this place you guys are hilarious!!!!! Why would you get...
