My family and I drove from out of town to go to the Nederland Farmer’s Market a couple Saturday’s ago. We accidentally went up a one-way looking for parking and when we realized it, we were looking for somewhere to turn around (it was a short stretch of the road and so we went to the next street and turned off). My windows were down, enjoying the nice semi-fall weather. This woman with blonde dreads working the Salto Coffee tent screamed at us that we were going the wrong way down a one way, which by this time I had already realized. I said “I know...” and went to say that it was an accident and before I could get out another word she screamed again “YEAH YOU KNOW, BUT YOU’RE STILL DOING IT AND IT’S ILLEGAL!!!” I was shocked. Not only did she scream at us plus my 3 children in the backseat, but it was at her work and in front of the entire audience at the farmer’s market! I resisted the urge to confront her when I saw her at the market, and decided to let her potential customers know exactly how this employee (or owner... I am not sure how she’s connected to Salto Coffee, but she was working the tent) treats people in her daily life. If you are in the market for some great coffee, please consider another local option for coffee. If this had not happened, we likely would have purchased coffee from her tent and likely would have been a repeat customer because we LOVE coffee. I was/am very disappointed to say the least.
Side note: When we didn’t find parking after going down the one way the wrong way, we went back up the one way the right way to go down a different road and at least 3 cars were coming down the wrong way, so we had to wait on them to pass. Was she screaming at them, you ask? No, she was not. And neither was I, because I’m a decent human who understands that sometimes people take a wrong turn or don’t see the signs when...

Read moreSalto gives "women-owned" a bad name. This used to be my go-to place in Nederland. I really liked it, but no more. The staff--all of the staff--is extremely rude with entitled attitudes. I ordered a Greek salad which took 15 minutes to come out. When I asked about it, the uppity and disrespectful teenager working the counter who took my order told me it would be 30 minutes. When I asked why she didn't tell me that when I ordered, she said, staring at the ceiling, "Ummm. . . because this is happening now." Another server asked me what was going on, and I told her the teenage counter person was being disrespectful, and she said she is the most respectful teenager she's met. Yeah, right. That second server was rude also. Even though she "apologized," the attitude was that I was the one disturbing them, and that I was in the wrong. There was also a third server, when I approached the counter, she finally looked up (she knew I was there), and when I asked about my salad, she said, "I just got here, sorry." There was no attempt to find out about my order or to help me.
This is the last time I'll come here. There are other coffee shops in Nederland. What a shame. It used to be a nice place. I guess keeping a poorly trained staff with bad attitudes is more important than keeping...
