Hear ye, hear ye! Gather 'round, good folk of Sand Lake, for a proclamation of culinary delight from the Lakeside Inn Restaurant, located at 27 W Lake St! On this fine Friday during Lent, I did call ahead and order the famed fish and chips for takeout, and what a feast awaited me!
The menu offered a bounty of choices: fried, dry batter fried, or baked fish. I, in my wisdom, chose the traditional fried fish. For sides, I faced a noble decision between green beans and corn, and I did adapt for the corn. The potato selection was vast—traditional, French fries, mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes with gravy, a baked potato, and hashbrowns. I opted for mashed potatoes, sans gravy.
The meal arrived with two generous cups of tartar sauce, a hearty bread roll, and a Sirvan of coleslaw. Upon opening the tray, the fish appeared plentiful and golden, a sight to behold! The scoop of mashed potatoes and serving of corn looked promising, though the potatoes, alas, were a tad grainy and not stellar. The coleslaw, however, was a triumph—delicious and near perfect, a true highlight of the meal.
The restaurant also offers an all-you-can-eat fish option for those dining in, but the portion provided in my takeaway was more than sufficient. I shall return, though next time I may venture to try a different potato option.
And let us not forget the pies, good people! Lakeside Inn offers a delightful array of flavors to tempt thy sweet tooth. On this visit, I procured a slice of lemon meringue, my lifelong favorite pie, as well as a slice of Keylime meringue, my close second favorite. Though too full to indulge just yet, I can attest from past enjoyment that they will surely be delicious.
So, let it be known: Lakeside Inn Restaurant delivers a satisfying Lenten feast, with friendly options and generous portions, and their pies are a crowning glory....
Read moreToday's travels brings me to the small town of Sand Lake, Michigan. After finishing my work for the day, I drove through the little downtown looking for a place to get some lunch. I saw a little front called the Lakeside Inn. You've seen places like this in little towns by you. They look alike with that front, typically just breakfast and lunch. Lunch is usually about 6 different boring sandwiches that aren't very good.
This is NOT that boring restaurant! For such a small place, they had a HUGE menu. They have like 6 or 8 different types of club sandwiches. I ordered a hot roast beef sandwich. Naturally, I ordered double meat WHICH WAS AN OPTION FOR MORE THAN JUST THIS!!
So, I expected that same hot roast beef sandwich that you get at other similiar diners, with that cheap deli sliced roast beef. Oh no, not here. We're talking full on roast beef sandwich piled high with real, unsliced, chunked homemade roast beef. The sandwich and mashed potatos filled the entire plate. And the flavor. Ohhh man. I died and went to hot roast beef heaven.
As if that wasn't enough, I decided to be fat and order a piece of pie. Other reviews had talked about the pie, so I had to try it. Lots of pies to choose from. I tried the banana cream pie. It's not often you see banana cream pie. Yummy!
All in all, this was a GREAT find, and I wish there was more places like this. Laurie at the register was super nice and friendly. Sorry, I don't remember the young lady who was my server, but you did great too! :-)
I've gotta go back next time I'm in this little town. ...
Read moreDo NOT go here. There is a notice on the door for pickup in which states everyone needs to have a mask on when entering. Fine. Ok. But NO ONE. Not even staff. Had a mask on. They made me feel extremely unsafe and unwelcome.
I also called ahead of time to order my food in which the woman to took the call was coughing INCESSANTLY. To the point where she had to excuse herself from the call to cough.
They didn’t disclose to me that there was meat in one of their soups (cheesy cauliflower - one of our meals was for a vegetarian) and the fries were cold.
No thank you. Please avoid if you care about your...
