Honestly, I don't know why anyone would want to go to Laughlin. There's not much of anything there. But, if you happen to find yourself in Laughlin, and are hungry, there's a little hidden gem. Forget the restaurants inside the hotel-casinos. Bruce's Taste of Chicago is DEFINITELY a place worth eating at. Just understand that the place is small - seven 4-seat booths, one small 4-seat table (up to 3 comfortably), & four 2-seat tables (pushed together to seat 8).
To start, the walls are filled with all sorts of Chicago memorabilia...mostly sports (including a Blackhawks sweater), plus a collection of newspaper clippings (mostly sports-related), and other photos of Chicago notables. In other words, this little place really does appear to be a "Taste of Chicago", and not just by the food being served.
Getting to what those reading this review are looking for...the food...I ordered the Chicago Cheesesteak (with fries), along with a cup of chili, and a cup of iced tea. The iced tea was fresh brewed (which I could instantly tell, as it was still warm), and was about as perfect as tea can be - not overly-strong, and not watered down. As for the chili, I was disappointed (before I continue, please, don't take anything I say about the chili as a 'negative', because it's the cheesesteak that matters most). The large souffle cup it was served in was warmer than the chili. I highly suspect the chili was out of a can, and was heated in a microwave. At the same time, there was plenty of cheese on top, and that is a very GOOD thing (I REALLY like cheese). Now, getting what matters most, and for what averyone still reading this is reading it for.....the cheesesteak.
First, for anyone expecting a Philly cheesesteak, you're going to be disappointed...very disappointed. Regarding Philly vs Chicago cheesesteaks, yes, there IS a difference...and, if you don't know what that is, my best suggestion is to look it up. With that said, for those expecting a Chicago-style cheesesteak...or "Chicago beef", as it's called in Chicago...your tummy, and your taste buds, are going to be VERY happy. I would have liked a little more cheese (again, I REALLY like cheese), but, other than that, it was near-perfect. The only thing missing was giardiniera...and, I was completely ok with that (at least, for today), as I really didn't feel like pickled veggies today. The beef want seasoned as much as typical Chicago Italian beef...but, again, I was on work that, as my stomach was still a little 'upset' from yesterday. But, I was not about to let my stomach dictate what I was having for lunch, especially when it's a cheesesteak at stake (no pun intended).
With any of the cheesesteaks, you have the option of "housemade" french fries, potato salad, or a third option (which I'm blanking on at the moment...call it "food coma"). I debated between the potato salad & fries...and, in the end, I went with the fries. To be completely honest, I can't claim to know, with 100% certainty, whether, or not, the fries are truly "housemade" and/or freshly cut...but, I can say this - based on the texture, and the skin still being on, I'd there there's an incredibly high probability that these are freshly cut & fried.
With exception of the chili, this was a huge 'win'. If you made it this far in the review, you can quit reading, and head to BTOC (btw, that's how they answer the phone). Oh, yeah, one last thing - next time, I'm trying the potato salad. After all, I enjoy potato salad as much as I enjoy...
Read moreYou gotta find this place (that’s the challenge, go to the back of bay shore inn and up the stairs where it says blue lagoon lounge, there are two ways in, we went to the right side, not sure if the left side leads to the restaurant or not) I can assure food won’t disappoint, we went today for sandwiches before heading out of town and they were soooo good! The cheesesteak is my new addiction for next time I visit Laughlin. My sandwich was juicy and the meat with mushrooms and onions were cooked to perfection. The lady was nice enough on the phone to explain me their menu and ingredients on their best selling sandwiches, upon getting my order they were all nice and told me they operate mostly by word of mouth as they don’t even have a sign of the place which tells me they take real pride on what they are offering. But a sign should totally help! I told her our neighbors told us about it but in one occasion two years ago we had been tried to find it and gave up, I wish I had found them 2 years ago! Anyways, next time you happen to be in Laughlin make sure you eat one of...
Read moreWe love the food here and usually have no issues with the staff at all. This past Sunday on 9/7 we called in at 6:22 to order food not realizing that they closed at 7:00pm. The lady taking our order who was not Brandi was extremely rude to us about ordering. She made a comment on the phone saying “uggh we will make it happen”. Then when my husband walked in to pick up our food she had the audacity to rudely tell him “ next time order earlier they don’t pay us over time” and kept stressing how frustrating it was that we ordered late. It’s sad to say this but we probably won’t come back anytime soon due to her behavior. We didn’t realize what time it was and was just trying to feed our family. If it was too late she could have just said it was too late to place an order instead of making us feel bad and treating us poorly as well. We still even left her a tip even with that poor attitude. Please correct her on her behavior before she acts like this with someone else. It’s definitely bad...
