this place was highly recommended to me by a friend of mine while we were here on a business trip. we stopped in after a long day of work so he could grab a beer and i could grab a bite. their menu is made up completely of their original spins on american tavern fare -- which i already respect -- but what i got exceeded expectations.
i got the chicken and waffles with a side of fries. forget what you think that implies, because carmody's goes its own way. the fries are fried in such a way that they have a lighter texture more reminiscent of potato straws than mcd's. this makes for an experience that is very.... well, i dunno if you've ever heard a fry described as "refreshing" before, but that's the best way to put it. and that's not even getting to the main event.
these chicken and waffles are not your basic hipster bar "we put two chicken tenders on some basic bisquick waffles". you get a huge juicy chicken breast, topped with bacon, cheese, and house made maple sauce. i could not place what the sauce was, but apparently it's made in-house and it's a secret. this and the very sweet, almost candied waffle, make for an AMAZING centerpiece, unlike any chicken & waffles i've had anywhere else.
carmody's, much like the city of pittsburgh, walks its own path. it looks like your everyday sports bar when you walk in, but it quickly becomes apparent that it does its own thing and is willing to fly in the face of tradition in the best possible way in order to make something way more delicious. absolutely recommended if you find yourself on the neville island side...
Read moreI was hoping to write a great review, unfortunately that isn't the case. This restaurant is really nice inside, and has a great outdoor seating area as well. The bar is above average and the wait staff was very friendly.
We ordered a Fish Medley special at $20.95 that was way over priced. Although taste was fine it was served without a vegetable and very watery, (rice base was where liquid came from). Next was a Four Cheese and Tomato Sandwich. A little dissapointed as the bread over powered the cheese, and with the web site talking up their "scratch made" items I was expecting the tomato to have a home grown taste, but no it was one of the green house tomatoes without any taste. A Reuben sandwich completed our order, thank goodness this didn't disappoint. The fries were soggy, hoping for crisp, the Cole slaw was good, and the ice tea was some of the best I have had in sometime.
We know this location is new, the menu is still in flux, and the old location in Wexford is hanging over their heads, but we are encouraged they will improve and become one of our favorites. The location is great, has ample parking and the...
Read moreAt first we were greeted politely by the host and the server. After that it was pretty disappointing. We ordered the pub fries as an app with our drinks and did not receive it until about 10 mins after our food. I felt pressured to order since the server asked us what we wanted about 5x and we kept saying not yet not yet. I ended up just picking something that looked good which was the bals chx flatbread. My bf got the hot sausage sandwich and upgraded to the “onions rings”. They’re pictured and those speak for themselves. We asked the server for fries instead bc they were grease rings. I had to ask for them to be taken off the bill. After not getting our fries for literally 35 mins on a slow Monday afternoon, getting raw greasy rings of onion, and no basil on my 3 ingredient flatbread, I felt a manager or at least the server would show or have some type of apologetic gesture but he did not seem to care. He wanted our order and our payment and that’s it, staff maybe need more direction. I wondered how it took so long for me to find this place since it’s right up the street, and after this experience I wish I had left it...
