Taking the fact that it was a busy holiday into account my rating is based purely on the fact that the food was mid at best. The only seasoning the burger got was whatever chars accumulated over the years.
Frankly I probably would've been happier with my meal if I hadn't seen a filthy rag sitting on food prep surfaces, cooks touching their greasy phones and immediately going back to food prep, and noticing the grime (peep the stainless that definitely needs a good scrubbing) that accumulates from years of sub par cleaning. I know it's best to not think about how dirty the kitchen is but the kitchen was on display. That being said my medium rare burger was luke warm and well done at the same time, they never asked what to replace the poutine with so they gave me crisps. I appreciate that they gave me fries when I brought that up, however they gave me soggy mildly warm fries that for some reason tasted like bacon?
Although grossed out by the state of the kitchen, I could still be convinced to give a 4.5 or 4.8 if the food was good. But taking away any of the issues brought on by it being a busy holiday weekend, the burgers only flavor was the grill, there's no real flavor to it.
In summation, kinda mid, but if you're hammered you probably won't care about sanitary...
Read moreIn the past, the Iron Horse was a steam locomotive that helped pioneers settle in the west. Now the Iron Horse restaurant helps your stomach settle in with a good meal and a well priced menu. If you would like to go to an old fashioned restaurant that has good food, decor, and location, then the Iron Horse is the place for you. For example, the Iron Horse has a typical Minnesota menu that consists of walleye fingers, loaded tater tots, and specialty burgers. I enjoyed a classic burger with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and spicy mayo. Next, the decor of the place features a very nice array of Minnesota sports memorabilia. Some of the souvenirs include hockey, baseball, and football jerseys from professional and amateur athletes. Last but not least, the location of the restaurant is in Nevis, Minnesota, in the north central lake district. It is located right off Highway 34 on the Lake Country Scenic Byway. It has parking for at least 20 cars. Altogether, it is a great place for family and friends. But it's always sad when it...

That being said, I must just really have bad luck when it comes to ordering. I've had the street tacos (cold, the corn tortillas were not cooked and therefore were floppy and fell apart), the brisket salad (the brisket was more fat than beef), and the beer cheese soup (really alarmingly acidic to the point where I could not finish it).
This last visit my son ordered a Sprite and the syrup was out so we asked instead for a Shirley Temple, and we were still charged for the Sprite. We did not notice until after we paid or we would have brought it up.
Otherwise the servers are always very friendly, there's sometimes a wait for food because this place does get packed, it has a fun atmosphere and I bet would be really fun to watch a Vikings game at. I will probably give it...
