It's a typical small town Iowa diner. There's no real theme to the decor, just a lot of food related nick-nacks stuck to the wall.
The food is what you'd expect from a place like this. Some of it seems fresh, some of it seems to come in frozen on a truck. Last night we weren't very hungry so we just had pie. I'm pretty sure it was not baked fresh on site. Today we came in for lunch. My burger was good, but reminded me of the burgers I make at home when I buy preformed patties and I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked. The bacon was overdone and hard. All in all, it was a good burger, just not a great one. The fries were really good. My wife had French toast and really liked it.
The service was almost non-existent. I realize places are going to be busy around church-gettin'-out time. And I saw the "help wanted" sign in their window. So, I was trying to be patient and forgiving. We did get in fairly quickly and ordered shortly after getting there. Our food came in a timely manner. Then, the service just stopped. It took ten minutes to flag the server down and request mustard. By now I had finished my coffee and asked for more. It was never brought. Even if I had to pay for another cup of coffee, that's fine. I would have done that. That wasn't even offered as an option. I just went ignored and ate my burger with no beverage.
I noticed a table of folks who came in right after us didn't even get to order until we were finished. Another table near us waited a good ten minutes for a check that never came and they guys had to go to the register and let one of the servers know they were ready to go. I went up to the register as soon as they were done to save us from having to wait ten or more minutes before...
Read moreDined here today for lunch with my Mom. Menu prices are ok, offer a decent variety, and the service was good.. that is why I am giving them 2 stars. Now ... My mom ordered the french dip and I ordered the steak sandwich. Waitress said the meals come with fries. Food arrived and it was Waffle Fries - Which is completely different than French Fries! Wish we had been told this in the beginning! My Mom and I split our sandwiches to share.. The French Dip was the worst sandwich I've ever had! HORRIBLY DRY/TOUGH beef (had to use a knife in order to eat it) served between two dry pieces of "french bread" with obvious plain beef broth.. NOT Au Jus at all and a few pickle chips on the plate. The steak sandwich was a little better.. it at least came with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles BUT it also came between 2 dry pieces of plain "french bread", not seasoned at all, and was COLD! Neither of us finished our meals.. then to top it off.. there is a sign at the register that they charge 3% to every bill!!! Will not...
Read moreI had high hopes for this restaurant, unfortunately those hopes were demolished. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed with our table and when we asked for syrup for our pancakes she scoughed and proceeded to leave out the front door. Ten minutes has passed by and still no syrup. I ordered 1/2 a broasted chicken I know it takes time to cook, and she brought out two wings (appetizers) and proceeded to tell us that they forgot to drop the chicken into the fryer. Everyone's cheese burgers were burnt and inedible. After about an hour and a half of waiting and still and we never asked for refills on our drinks. Our waitress was blaming the cooks for not speaking English and it just wasn't a pleasant experience. I couldn't wait any longer for my chicken, I told my son and wife let's leave and paid for their meals and left. Hopefully it was just a fluke of a day...
